As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the vast digital worlds of Marvel and beyond, I can’t help but feel a surge of anticipation when it comes to the upcoming Thunderbolts movie. With my fingers crossed and my gaming skills on standby, I’m ready to dive headfirst into this cinematic adventure.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears to be on an encouraging trajectory looking ahead, primarily due to the successes of Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as the news that Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Victor Von Doom in the upcoming phase. This phase will feature Von Doom as the primary antagonist of the MCU, highlighting the return of the legendary scientist.
Additionally, while these thrilling ventures are underway, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has a host of other projects in the pipeline as well. Some of these have sparked immense excitement, while others have stirred less enthusiasm. One such project is the upcoming Thunderbolts film, slated for release on May 2, 2025, assuming there are no changes along the way.
Currently, our knowledge regarding the upcoming film remains limited, so we’re taking this opportunity to delve into some of the most intriguing and widely-discussed fan speculations surrounding it. In this report, we will share these theories with you to help you stay informed and engaged in the lead-up to its release.
The Thunderbolts are going to be rescuing the Avengers
Reddit user ghostrider8303 proposed an intriguing connection between the “Thunderbolts” movie and “Captain America: Brave New World”: they might be interconnected.
Building on my previous discussion about forecasting plot points for the upcoming film, Captain America: New World Order.
After the New Avengers were taken by the Leader, Bucky, finding himself with no other options, approached John Walker, also known as U.S. Agent, despite Sam’s skepticism towards government agencies. In need, Bucky sought help from John. Later, John reported this situation to Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Val for short), who then authorized the Thunderbolts for the mission. Val and the U.S. government, particularly President Ross, had a hidden agenda: they aimed to capture the Leader in order to gain an advantage in the ongoing Superhuman Arms Race by securing the source itself.
Previously, it’s unveiled that the Thunderbolts undertook multiple assignments for Val and the U.S. government via flashbacks. Now, Bucky directs the Thunderbolts team in attacking the Leader’s fortress or its current operational base. However, we discover that the Leader, fearing loss of his Super Soldier serum supply, has invested all remaining stock into a single individual, amplifying it to its maximum potential as a deterrent against countries seeking him for the serum. This individual transforms into the Sentry, a villainous counterpart to Superman who was once a topic of speculation and is now a danger not only to others but also to the Leader due to his void-like personality.
To put it simply, the main objective of the Thunderbolts in this film is to save Sam Wilson, also known as Captain America, and his new team of Avengers.
At the end of the credits, it’s revealed that the Leader is in the hands of President Ross who chides him for aiming too low by attempting to replicate Captain America’s powers. Instead, he should have gone for the Hulk’s power – a hint at a possible Red Hulk appearance.

A revenge flick?
Industry expert DanielRPK posited his opinion about the upcoming film “Thunderbolts,” suggesting it could be a story centered around revenge.
In the story of ‘THUNDERBOLTS’, Yelena, US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster are ordered by Val to eliminate a target within a secure location. However, they soon discover that they were intentionally set up as bait for their own demise. Consequently, these four form an alliance and wage war against their superior to bring her down. A new Civil War-style movie?
A captivating Reddit hypothesis posed by user homodemiks speculates that the upcoming film may depict a clash between the Thunderbolts and the latest iteration of the Avengers. This prospect appears intriguing.
I said it. Fight me. It makes so much sense for Cap and the Avengers to piss off Ross in Captain America 4 and then have to fight him and his government team of super soldiers in The Thunderbolts. Idk it just feels like Thunderbolts is a movie lacking a whole lot of purpose if it’s just an MCU suicide squad movie.
This is coming off rumors that there’s going to be a civil war 2 before the kang dynasty, but this has been floating around in my head for a long time. Thunderbolts in this case would be that Civil War 2 because it’s heroes vs. heroes and the bad guy’s the government.
What do you think of this theory?

The Thunderbolts* will be copying off of The Suicide Squad?
It’s an older idea, yet it sheds light on matters in a distinct manner.
So this is a theory with really no backing but it’s what I want to happen. I think that the team we’ve all seen (which has Yelena, Red Guardian. Bucky, Taskmaster, Ghost, US Agent and Valentina) will offer a bait and switch, like in The Suicide Squad. We could see an attempt on doing the intended job with these characters, but they fail miserably. I don’t think they’ll all die, just maybe Taskmaster or Valentina. We then see the leaders of the Thunderbolts putting together a new team, and they could still include some of the first team like Ghost or Red Guardian. I think this is when we get some actual characters for the team and they’ll be who we are following for the rest of the movie. I think this team will comprise Abomination, Ghost, Red Guardian, possibly Red Hulk, US Agent and Baron Zemo as the leader. Again this is quite a bad theory but a fun one all the same
