The Thing Is Getting a Solo Series Before the Release of ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’

As a long-time Marvel fan with memories of flipping through comic books stacked higher than The Thing himself, I can’t help but feel my heart race at the prospect of this new limited series focusing on the ever-lovin’, blue-eyed Thing! Growing up, Ben Grimm was always the character that resonated most with me – a regular guy who just happened to be super strong. His struggle to balance his personal life and extraordinary powers mirrored my own struggles in navigating adolescence amidst the chaos of everyday life.

If he isn’t the most well-known member of the Fantastic Four, it’s undeniably The Thing who stands out the most and is easily recognized. This recognition significantly boosts the appeal of these characters among Marvel enthusiasts, as you might surmise. Excitingly, fans of The Thing can look forward to a significant new series from Marvel!

Marvel’s comic books are developing separately from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there’s often overlap or an attempt to do so. This is set to occur in March 2025 when the new series launches, which is only a few months prior to the release of the Fantastic Four: First Steps film within the MCU.

In this article, we’ll give you an overview of the upcoming mini-series, which centers around The Thing. This thrilling new series is set to debut shortly!

In simpler terms, The Thing, though not the most renowned character, possesses an unique charm that resonates with fans and has inspired comic book creators to develop captivating stories for the future. Currently, Marvel is focusing on creating a fresh series featuring this beloved character.

This series originates from writer Tony Fleecs, who recently made his Marvel Comics debut in “Venom War: Wolverine” #1 and will pen a five-part limited series titled “The Thing.” In this storyline, The Thing confronts a significant criminal conspiracy that leads him back to his early years. Here’s a summary of the series:

Initially, Ben Grimm, who’s famously known as the strongest member of The Fantastic Four, was merely a skinny boy from Yancy Street. However, when an enigmatic figure from his past propels him on a quest to find a missing child, the Thing is compelled to uncover the truth, regardless of the consequences that might label him as a fugitive! Prepare for the Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed Thing to go head-to-head with every superpowered villain and bounty hunter in New York City! Fleecs and Kirk offer a peek into the past of the Thing that underscores why Ben Grimm is the soul of the Marvel Universe… and why you wouldn’t dare tell him so!

Artwork for the debut issue will be delivered by Leonard Kirk. If you’re curious about a preview of the initial release, take a look here:

It’s obvious that several antagonists are hinted at in this series. Although we doubt that it will introduce a significant plot twist altering the established storyline, we’re confident that it promises to be quite thrilling. This sentiment is echoed by the comic’s creator as well.

“What I find endearing about Ben Grimm is his ordinary, hardworking nature despite having superpowers. He’s not easily awed by the extraterrestrial and cosmic events surrounding him. The intriguing aspect of this book lies in trying to determine what would actually astonish the Thing.

What would surprise or take him by surprise? To create a twist, we’re pitting him against an assortment of villains from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe. We’re setting up battles with opponents you might not anticipate. Check out Leonard Kirk’s art featuring The Thing! Trust me, he’ll be taking down foes that he hasn’t faced before.
