As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating virtual worlds and fighting against injustice, I wholeheartedly support Coralie Fargeat’s decision to withdraw “The Substance” from Camerimage Film Festival. The festival director’s comments were not just misguided, but a clear reflection of a mindset that needs to be eradicated from the film industry and beyond.
Director Coralie Fargeat chose to pull her movie “The Substance” from the Camerimage Film Festival, following controversial remarks by the festival head concerning female cinematographers. In a post on platform X, Coralie explained the circumstances surrounding this decision.
Upon uncovering the director of the Camerimage Film Festival’s highly disrespectful and offensive language towards women, I have chosen to withdraw ‘The Substance’ from the event. Additionally, Benjamin Kračun, our director of photography, has opted not to participate in the festival.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve just wrapped up “The Substance”, a game that sheds light on how our actions shape the world we live in. It’s high time we stand against such behaviors. My solidarity goes out to everyone associated with the festival, and I hope this decision will spark the change we so desperately need.
We send our support to all involved in the festival and hope this decision will help create a much needed change.

In an article for Cinematography World Magazine, festival director Marek Żydowicz appeared to suggest that expanding the representation of female cinematographers and directors in the event’s schedule could potentially lead to showcasing “less exceptional films.
Is it right to discard what is admired and significant merely to facilitate social change? For instance, events like Cannes, Berlin, or Venice are often criticized because they tend to favor political or ideological trends in their selections. However, Camerimage stands firm on its dedication to artistic values as the primary factor for evaluating and promoting film art.
