When people talk about actors who appear often in Quentin Tarantino’s films, Uma Thurman and Tim Roth are usually the first names mentioned. Thurman is well-known for her roles as The Bride in Kill Bill and Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction, and Roth has been in four Tarantino projects, including a segment of Four Rooms. Harvey Keitel also appears in four films, but Samuel L. Jackson is famous for being in six. Surprisingly, even Jackson isn’t the actor who’s appeared in the most Tarantino films. That distinction belongs to Tarantino himself, who makes a point of having a small role in each of his movies. Though he’s best known as a director, Tarantino clearly likes making quick, often unexpected, appearances in his own work.
His career took off with his first film, Reservoir Dogs (1992), where he played the ill-fated Mr. Brown. He then gained wider recognition for his role as Jimmy in Pulp Fiction, famously known for dressing down Jules and Vincent while wearing a bathrobe. Since then, he’s taken on a diverse range of roles, including a member of the Crazy 88, a Nazi soldier, and a worker in a mining company – and many more.
Quentin Tarantino often finds a way to appear in his own films, even if it’s just through a voice-over or a credit. You can hear him as the voice on an answering machine in Jackie Brown and as a commercial director at the end of Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. The only exception seems to be Kill Bill: Volume 2, which he considers part of the same movie as the first.
But now, Tarantino is taking his acting hobby to a new level with his biggest role in decades. He’s currently starring as John Percy in the French indie film Only What We Carry, alongside actors like Simon Pegg and Sofia Boutella. This is a big change for the director, as it’s his first major acting part since 1996.
Quentin Tarantino is experiencing a renewed interest in his older work while also getting ready to release his new $200 million Netflix film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth. Although David Fincher is directing, Tarantino wrote the script and is a key producer on the project. Brad Pitt reprises his role as the main character, alongside new cast members Elizabeth Debicki and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
As for his tenth and final movie, plans are still developing after he cancelled The Movie Critic. Recently, Tarantino mentioned he’s prioritizing writing a stage play. If the play is very successful, he suggests it could become the basis for his final film.
