A sequel to The Social Network, released over a decade ago, has been officially announced. Known as The Social Network Part II, the upcoming film is being penned and directed by Aaron Sorkin, who also wrote the 2010 Academy Award-winning original. Unlike its predecessor, which centered around Facebook’s inception, this sequel will delve into the platform’s more contentious periods of history.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set to be adapted from “The Facebook Files” by The Wall Street Journal. This narrative will delve into various aspects such as misinformation spread across Meta’s platforms, its impact on teenagers, and the company’s role in the events culminating in the January 6 Capitol riot.
Jeremy Strong may replace Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg
Jesse Eisenberg, who became well-known for playing Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg in the first Social Network film, won’t appear in the sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eisenberg declined the opportunity to replay the role, but it is being speculated that this could be a strategy used during negotiations.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired Jesse Eisenberg’s acting prowess. Recently, at the age of 41, he chose to step back from “The Social Network 2” project. While I can’t speak for him directly, it seems plausible that portraying Zuckerberg from a decade earlier might have been a factor in his decision. Officially, he hasn’t shared his reasons yet, but the intrigue remains!
As a lifestyle expert, I might say: While official casting is yet to be announced, if we were to consider Jeremy Strong from Succession for the role, he certainly has the credentials. At 46, he’s older than Eisenberg, but his captivating performances in series like Succession and movies such as The Trial of the Chicago 7 make him a strong contender. Moreover, his experience portraying a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice could potentially give him an edge in the role.
Here’s what we know about the new cast and characters
According to Deadline’s latest updates, Jeremy Allen White, famously recognized as The Bear actor, may be discussing preliminary roles for a part similar to Jeff Horwitz – the Wall Street Journal journalist who uncovered the Meta investigation. Meanwhile, Mikey Madison, best known for her work in Anora and Better Things, is said to be under consideration for the role of Frances Haugen, the Facebook whistleblower.
At present, there are no definitive choices regarding the cast for this project. So far, no actors have agreed to join and there have been no officially confirmed offers.
Right now, they’re working on The Social Network Sequel, but there’s no confirmed launch date as of now. It was revealed back in June 2025 that it would likely be set in the year 2021 – when The Facebook Files were first released.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share some insights about an upcoming movie that delves into the inner workings of Meta, previously known as Facebook. This film intends to shed light on claims suggesting that Facebook may have disregarded internal alarms regarding its potential effects on mental health and democracy.
