THE SIMPSONS’ Milhouse Voice Actor Retires From Show After 35 Years

As a longtime Simpsons fan with over three decades of witnessing Springfield’s antics, it’s bittersweet to hear about Pamela Hayden’s departure. I remember Milhouse back from his Butterfingers commercial debut and have grown fond of this nerdy, resilient character through the years. While I understand that all good things must come to an end, and retirement is a natural part of life, it’s hard not to feel a tinge of sadness when one of the show’s most iconic performers decides to hang up their microphone.

After 35 years, one of the stars on The Simpsons, Pamela Hayden, has decided to retire from the show. Known for voicing characters like Milhouse Van Houten, Jimbo Jones, Rod Flanders, and others, she is now stepping away. However, this doesn’t mean the end of The Simpsons, as they will be recasting these roles moving forward.

The actress Pamela Hayden, who lends her voice to Bart Simpson’s friend, the well-known nerd character named after former U.S. President Richard Nixon (without the “e”), has announced she is stepping down from the role. In a statement, she expressed gratitude and happiness for being part of the “humorous, intelligent, and pioneering” show.

Her final act will be featured in the unique production titled “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Simpsons Wicked This Way Comes”. This concludes an exceptional, multi-decade journey. Hayden initially lent her voice to Milhouse as far back as 1989, which was notably in a Butterfingers advertisement. Her initial appearance marked the beginning of a remarkable series, filled with many memorable roles. Among those roles, Hayden is also known for Todd Flanders at times, Sarah Wiggum, Krusty’s secretary Lois Pennycandy, Lisa’s friend Janey Powell (however, this role was re-cast in 2022), and Malibu Stacy. Additionally, Pamela Hayden played numerous minor characters throughout her extensive tenure with the series.

As a gamer, I was touched when they paid tribute to Hayden’s retirement with a heartfelt video that spread across social media. In this video, Hayden shared some insightful thoughts about being recognized as Milhouse from The Simpsons. Despite many viewing him as a nerd, she appreciates his resilience – “he always gets back up” no matter the number of times he’s knocked down. She even declared her affection for the character, saying, “I love the little guy.

Supporters of “The Simpsons” may be disheartened to learn that one of the show’s top actors is departing, but they can find comfort in understanding that Hayden’s characters won’t be leaving. The series plans to seek new talent for the vacant roles. Although it’s likely they’ll discover talented voice actors for every character, there’s no denying that nobody will ever replace Hayden as Milhouse, the one-of-a-kind, spectacled, blue-haired kid.
