The Shawshank Redemption Star William Sadler Mourns the Loss of His Wife Marni Joan Bakst After 45 Years of Marriage: ‘I Don’t Think I Can Fathom’

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of human stories, I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Marni Joan Bakst, William Sadler’s beloved wife of 45 years. The poignant tribute shared by Sadler on Facebook serves as a testament to their enduring love and partnership, a bond that spanned over four decades and was forged in the early morning hours of May 6, 1978.

William Sadler is deeply grieving the passing of his wife of 45 years, Marni Joan Bakst. The actor from Roswell, aged 74, shared a heartfelt message about Bakst’s death and an old photograph on Facebook, where they can be seen holding coffee mugs on their wedding day back in May 6, 1978.

On Thursday, December 19, Sadler penned a tribute saying, “Early this morning, my beloved wife, Marni Bakst, sadly concluded her two-year fight against cancer. It’s hard for me to grasp or express the depth of this loss after 45 wonderful years of marriage.

In time and a bit of space, I might articulate this remarkable individual who’s an artist, feminist, wife, and mother more effortlessly, but for now, I appreciate your understanding and kindness. Thank you all. Sincerely, Bill. This message was also posted on platform X.

The couple shared one daughter, Sadler Colley Bakst, throughout their decades-long marriage.

In celebration of their 45th wedding anniversary last year, Sadler shared the very same photo taken on their wedding day, accompanied by a touching tribute expressing his deepest admiration for his beloved wife.

Instead of referring to himself as “the lucky young man” and his wife as a “young woman with huge eyes,” Sadler could say that after all these years, he continues to be the fortunate husband, his wife’s eyes remain as captivatingly beautiful as ever, and he feels like the luckiest individual on this planet and beyond.

From the get-go, Bakst stood by my side like a rock, lending unwavering support to my acting journey, which began long before I graced the stage for my Broadway debut in Neil Simon’s Biloxi back in 1985.

Prominently recognized for his role as the long-term inmate Heywood in the critically acclaimed 1994 drama The Shawshank Redemption, Sadler has also made a name for himself in various other productions such as Die Hard 2, Iron Man 3, When They See Us, Salem’s Lot, and others.
