The ‘Sectaurs’ Are Comic Back in a Brand-New Comic Book Series

As someone who grew up in the vibrant era of the 80s, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia when I hear about the revival of the Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion! The NacelleVerse is like a time machine, transporting us back to the days of our youth, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Back in the day, you might not recognize or recall them, but the Sectaurs: Warriors of Symbion were quite a hit as a toy brand, much like many other brands from the 80s that are now just a memory. If you haven’t heard of it yet, let me fill you in – it’s all part of the NacelleVerse!

The NacelleVerse, derived from The Nacelle Company, serves as a transmedia franchise that critically examines and enhances various popular 80’s franchises, with plans to broaden this scope to span four decades (from the 1960s to the 1990s). This collective universe includes multiple acquired franchises, all interconnected.

The Sectaurs are now getting their own story, with Oni Press launching a new comic book series featuring these beloved insect-themed characters from the ’80s. This will be the second comic book series focusing on them, following Marvel’s brief run in the mid-’80s.

Back in October 30, 2024, I got my hands on Sectaurs #1, penned by Dennis Culver and beautifully illustrated by Ramon Bachs. As an ardent fan of the 80s, I can’t help but feel a wave of nostalgia with this release. The original Sectaurs were a defining symbol of that era, and let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to revisit the golden age of pop culture? But what makes this revival truly special is the authenticity – it’s like stepping back in time without losing any of the modern appeal.

According to the announcement made by Nacelle, these brands are being rolled out in multiple stages, with the initial phase (which began this year) including the following franchises: Sectaurs, RoboForce, Biker Mice from Mars, The Great Garloo, Power Lords, and Big Loo. As of now, the Sectaurs comic book series is planned to release three issues; however, there’s a possibility that it might be extended in the future.

The series author, Dennis Culver, had this to say about the comic book:

I can’t help but be incredibly excited to collaborate with Nacelle and Oni as they reimagine SECTAURS for the modern era! The combatants of Symbion are unlike any other characters you’ve encountered in comic books. Think of it as a blend between “Game of Thrones” and insects, rather than dragons.

According to Hunter Gorinson, President and Publisher of Oni Press, it appears that SECTAURS will play a significant role in the forthcoming NacelleVerse, which he himself acknowledges.

Among the numerous cherished worlds in the NacelleVerse, SECTAURS occupies a unique spot of veneration for readers who encountered these characters initially through their original Marvel Comics series by renowned creators Bill Mantlo and Mark Texeira. It’s an immense pleasure to witness them reemerge vividly in a boisterous and exhilarating manner, thanks to the skilled hands of Dennis Culver and Ramon Bachs – two artists adept at blending science fiction, fantasy, and thrilling superheroics into unparalleled comic book excitement.

Emphasizing its significance, Nacelle’s CEO and Founder, Brian Volk-Weiss, has underlined the importance of this franchise.

Sectaurs plays a significant role in the grand narrative of the Nacelleverse, and we’re excited to begin this thrilling journey with our partners at Oni Press. We aim to respect the deep-rooted history of Sectaurs, and issue #1 serves as a crucial initial step towards that goal.
