The Rumors Were True: Jac Schaeffer Confirms There Was a Tenth Episode of ‘WandaVision’!

As a die-hard Marvel fan with countless hours spent binge-watching and dissecting every detail of their shows, I can confidently say that WandaVision has left an indelible mark on the MCU. It was not just a brilliant continuation of Wanda’s story, but it also set the bar high for future Marvel productions.

Speaking about Marvel’s lineup, it’s clear that “WandaVision” holds a special place. It was the first series within the MCU, yet it has proven itself to be one of the top-tier shows produced so far. The emotional journey presented in “WandaVision” offers a deep exploration of Wanda’s character, showcasing her immense power and hidden pain. This series also hinted at her potential villainous role in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

The entire series was widely appreciated by both critics and enthusiasts, and at a certain point, it sparked intense conversations amongst Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. To this day, the impact of the series remains significant as we continue to delve into its legacy through ongoing discussions.

Back in the day, whispers circulated that WandaVision might have a hidden tenth episode. However, the series concluded after only nine episodes. These rumors hinted at a potential plan for ten episodes initially. Yet, no confirmation came about during that time, and it’s likely most viewers had moved on. But recently, showrunner Jac Schaeffer unveiled the secret truth!

The highly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series titled WandaVision made its debut on January 15, 2021, marking the first official installment of the MCU. Although other Marvel shows had existed previously, they were not formally connected to the MCU. The captivating cast includes Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda and Paul Bettany as Vision, with Kathryn Hahn joining as Agatha Harkness, who would later star in her own show. The narrative revolves around Wanda’s sorrow as she employs her powers to fabricate an entire town, using it to create a false reality where Vision is alive and they share a family together.

The show concluded on March 5, 2021, following nine episodes, however, there were rumors swirling around strongly suggesting that an unseen tenth episode might have been in production. It wasn’t clear if the episode was filmed and held back, or if it was abandoned entirely, but whispers persisted that such a tenth episode existed.

Initially, no official details were shared regarding the alleged tenth episode. However, three years later, the showrunner, Jac Schaeffer, has confirmed its existence. She revealed that the episode was indeed produced but ultimately discarded, with elements from it being integrated into the ninth episode. Here’s what she stated:

Initially, ‘WandaVision’ consisted of ten episodes, but due to practical, financial, and creative considerations, two episodes were merged together. As we progressed into the ‘Agatha’ segment, I aimed for it to maintain the same scope and dimensions as ‘WandaVision,’ which is why it always remained nine episodes.

This aligns with what series director Matt Shankman, who helmed the production of “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” stated three years ago (incidentally, this statement fueled the speculations at that time).

Indeed, there was an ongoing process of transformation and readjustment in the narrative. Particularly, the real-world elements and the climax underwent significant shifts. We were also engaged in numerous trials of new ideas. At one point, we had initially planned ten episodes but later merged a few to enhance the overall flow.

As you noticed, the series WandaVision evolved over time, and it had been intended to include a post-credits scene featuring Doctor Strange, however, they were unable to bring that plan into fruition.

To begin with, Doctor Strange was originally intended for a cameo in the ‘WandaVision’ post-credit scene. In this scene, Wanda is seated on a porch, serene and calm. As you may recall, Doctor Strange has the ability to create swirling portals and move people through them. A circle formation starts around Wanda, hinting at her possible teleportation elsewhere. However, she stops it, forcing him to appear in person. This was a delightful concept as it suggested Wanda asserting control over her own movements, saying effectually, ‘I’m not going where you want me to be teleported. You have to come to my door instead.’ Unfortunately, another post-credit scene took its place.
