The upcoming third season of “The Rings of Power” is quickly approaching, as filming will start this spring at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Ever since the season two conclusion was broadcast last October, enthusiasts have been impatiently waiting, and now we have some thrilling updates about what lies ahead.
In a significant shift, the upcoming season is set to leap forward significantly in time from the events of season two. The focus will be on Sauron, as he embarks on the process of forging the One Ring. This new phase will delve into the peak of the conflict known as the War of the Elves and Sauron, where the Dark Lord aims to exploit the power of the Ring to ensure his triumph over Middle-earth.
The conflict unfolds in Tolkien’s world during the Second Era, preceding the events portrayed in “The Lord of the Rings”. This earlier struggle, referred to as the War among Elves, paves the way for the renowned War of the Last Alliance, depicted in the movie prologues.
In addition, season three introduces fresh talent behind the camera as well. Charlotte Brandstrom, who was a frequent director in seasons one and two, will rejoin us for round three. Sanaa Hamri, who directed in season two, is coming back as well. A new face among the directors this time around is Stefan Schwartz, recognized for his work on shows like The Boys and The Walking Dead.
The program is still causing quite a stir. The debut of “The Rings of Power” was Prime Video’s largest premiere ever, and the second season currently holds the title for the most-watched returning series. To date, approximately 170 million viewers have tuned in to the show, significantly contributing to the surge in new Prime membership registrations.
The show is created by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who additionally act as executive producers. Alongside them are Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and Charlotte Brandstrom. Matthew Penry-Davey serves as the producer, with Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee listed as associate producers in the production team.
