In a previous work, J.R.R. Tolkien depicted Sauron’s fall from power and need for redemption, which is where we find him at the start of season two. He reaches a critical juncture, questioning if he could choose another route. Whether this introspection is sincere or not remains unclear, but I appreciate the intrigue that ambiguity brings.
