The Reason Cable And Domino Were Not Present In An Already Packed Cast In Deadpool & Wolverine: Explored

As a dedicated Marvel fan who has followed the Deadpool saga since its inception, I must say I’m disappointed that Zazie Beetz’s Domino and Josh Brolin’s Cable didn’t make an appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine. Their absence feels like missing pieces in a jigsaw puzzle, especially considering their significant roles in Deadpool 2.

In this new Marvel movie featuring Deadpool and Wolverine, many familiar faces from past films reappear. Yet, some significant characters are conspicuously absent. A significant point of discussion revolves around the potential outcomes for Cable and Domino, who played pivotal roles in Deadpool 2. Let’s explore why these key figures didn’t show up in this first R-rated film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It’s unclear why Zazie Beetz’s Domino character wasn’t featured in a Deadpool and Wolverine crossover, given that she was introduced to fans as a luck-manipulating mutant and a member of the X-Force team alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in Deadpool 2.

In the final installment of the 2018 sequel, Domino seemed to solidify her role within the Deadpool series, hinting at potential future appearances. However, due to financial limitations and the hassle of reuniting the actress who portrayed her (also known as the Joker from Atlanta) for a minor appearance in the upcoming film, it seems unlikely she will return. If she had, her character would have held a similar status to the remaining Deadpool family on Earth-10005.

Fans could be surprised to find out that Domino won’t appear in the movie, as confirmed by the actress herself during an interview with Decider in 2023. In the same conversation, Beetz shared, “I’m not featured in ‘Deadpool 3,’ so I’m unsure about their improvisation plans. It seems they might be taking a break. […] I can’t wait to see it!”

Previously, Beetz showed an inclination towards playing the role again. Later in 2021, she restated her enthusiasm for taking on the role once more and looked forward to engaging in substantial discussions regarding a potential solo Domino film.

In the Deadpool & Wolverine movie, Deadpool, who frequently mixes reality and humor by breaking the fourth wall, comments on Josh Brolin’s character, Cable, not appearing. He implies that maybe Cable was disliked by test audiences, making it seem like a valid reason for his absence. However, it’s more likely just a comedic twist in the storytelling.

In reality, Deadpool 2’s test screenings received high praise. Various factors could explain why Cable was absent from the film, such as script considerations or actor availability, none of which reveal the full storyline. Likewise, Marvel films and others face budget limitations, leading to adjustments in character appearances, taking up valuable screen and financial resources. It’s possible that the story didn’t have space for Cable’s return due to these constraints.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d rephrase it this way: In a recent chat with Collider, Josh Brolin playfully pondered his absence in Deadpool 3 and hinted at a potential feud with Ryan Reynolds. When asked about his possible return to the franchise, Brolin quipped that he wasn’t in the movie, didn’t know why, and speculated that perhaps Reynolds simply doesn’t care for him. However, it’s clear from his wry grin and direct gaze into the camera that Brolin was just kidding around.
