The Powerpuff Girls are making a return to their television screens and settling back into their original network, Cartoon Network. To clarify, this isn’t a new version or remake of The Powerpuff Girls. We aren’t referring to the cancelled live-action show whose pilot was recently leaked online (although I must say that the trailer for it was quite unusual, to put it mildly). However, the live-action adaptation aside, Cartoon Network will start re-airing the original Powerpuff Girls episodes from April 12 on a new Saturday morning schedule, as announced by @CNschedules. The lineup also includes Teen Titans Go! and Steven Universe. The Powerpuff Girls is scheduled to air at 10:30 AM, following Steven Universe.
Cartoon Network is experiencing a surge of interest in the revamped “Powerpuff Girls” following its re-emergence in contemporary culture. From its Y2K fashion impact to bands like New Jeans incorporating the characters and themes into their music, the Powerpuff Girls are more relevant than ever. This renewed popularity has led to their return to TV screens and regular programming for the first time in years. It appears that Warner Bros. Animation is capitalizing on the nostalgia for shows like “The Powerpuff Girls” due to Adult Swim’s “Checkered Past” block, which airs reruns of classic Cartoon Network shows from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Although reruns may not be the most thrilling updates you’ll find, they don’t signal despair just yet! In 2022, there were announcements about a revival of “The Powerpuff Girls” and “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends”. The original creator, Craig McCracken, has also joined the team as a developer. However, since the initial announcement, no further details about this reboot have been shared.
The Powerpuff Girls is available to binge in its entirety on Max.
