As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for intriguing narratives and immersive performances, I must admit that the revelation about Colin Farrell‘s character Oz Cobb’s anatomical authenticity in The Penguin has left me both amused and slightly bewildered. It’s not every day that one encounters such candid details about a fictional character!
Colin Farrell has expressed doubts about returning for a second season of “The Penguin” due to the challenging process of donning all the necessary prosthetics, which turned him into the larger Oz Cobb character. He found it exhausting to wear the additional weight by the end of the season, but he acknowledges the effort his makeup team put in to ensure he had the right amount of…size…for the show’s debut. The star of “The Penguin” revealed that despite it not being visible, he was actually wearing a realistic miniature penguin during his nude scene.
The inaugural episode of ‘The Penguin’ concluded with Oz Cobb, stripped bare and bound to a chair. Sofia Falcone subjected him to torture as she grilled him about her brother’s killing. This scene was riveting in its own right, but it also showcased the exceptional skill of the series’ hair and makeup team. We got a full view of Oz’s physique, except for one specific part that remained unseen. Interestingly, if we had seen the Penguin’s private area, it would have revealed a suitable henchman for the character.
In an interview with Variety, Farrell mentioned that the show’s prosthetics designer, Michael Marino, went above and beyond by ensuring Oz had a realistic physique. This was achieved by adding a “velcro attachment” to complement the other body prosthetics worn by Farrell. To further enhance the authenticity of his nude scenes, Farrell also revealed that his character sported a well-groomed, retro-style pubic hair.
Just as you might require some time to process this new knowledge, so do we. In the same way, we are also taking in this information and adjusting accordingly. So, yes, we are too.
Regarding filming in the nude as Oz Cobb, Farrell described it as an unusual and awkward experience. Although he wasn’t truly bare, he felt like he was. During breaks between shots, he requested a towel to shield himself because he “felt extremely exposed,” despite knowing he was anything but.
Could he have had those feelings if he didn’t use a fake one? It’s hard to say. Only if he appears again in season two and films another nude scene without it will we find out for sure. However, it seems we’ve dwelt enough on the Penguin’s private matter already.
