THE PENGUIN Has a Weird Release Schedule That Will Mean an Extra Wait For Episode 2

As a seasoned gamer and television enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a tad disoriented by this peculiar release schedule for The Penguin series. Having binged-watched countless shows on various platforms, I’ve grown accustomed to the rhythm of weekly episodes, each one building upon the last.

Oz Cobb, starring in HBO’s upcoming series, is making his entrance according to his own rules, much like a classic supervillain would. The Batman spinoff series featuring Colin Farrell as The Penguin has an unusual release schedule. Instead of following the conventional method where shows air on a specific day of the week, this show will debut on both HBO and Max at 9 PM on Thursday, September 19. However, unlike most shows that stick to the same airing day, this one is switching it up. Starting with the second episode, new installments will be aired every Sunday night, taking over one of the most cherished time slots in all of television.

You and me, kid.

The new HBO Original Limited Series #ThePenguin premieres September 19 at 9 pm ET on Max, and then Sundays at 9 pm ET starting September 29.

Oz Cobb is all set to conquer Gotham, HBO, and Max with the initial episode of The Penguin, an eagerly awaited series. I’ve had the chance to watch it, and I must say, it was outstanding. Regrettably, those who share my sentiment will have to endure a slightly longer wait for the next installment. Warner Bros. Discovery has disclosed that instead of maintaining a Thursday night broadcast, the show will shift to the 9 PM slot on Sundays instead.

It’s terrific news for the series, as it indicates the company’s high regard for it. HBO’s 9 PM Sunday slot is their prime-time position on the television schedule, having hosted acclaimed megahits such as The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, and The Last of Us, along with numerous other critically and audience-adored shows.

If HBO is eager about The Penguin, wouldn’t it be more suitable to debut the series on Sunday instead? Starting on Thursday might lead to dissatisfaction among viewers who expect to watch the first episode but find that they’ve missed it when they turn on their TVs a week later. Similarly, some viewers might get confused if they tune in on September 29 and discover that the show is actually starting with its second episode.

It’s chaos! Like Gotham City after the Riddler destroyed the sea wall!

Certainly, I suppose adding three more days isn’t completely disastrous, but it seems unlikely this situation would unfold under Carmine Falcone’s leadership. Oz Cobb has quite a challenge ahead if he aspires to take the reins.
