Christopher Nolan will direct a major motion picture adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey, scheduled for release in July 2026. A recently unveiled trailer offers a glimpse into the film, which tells the story of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, and his journey home following the Trojan War. Fans are anticipating an epic film from the acclaimed director.
The Odyssey trailer unveils a deeper look into the Matt Damon-led story
The initial trailer introduces Matt Damon as the heroic Odysseus, leading his battle-worn soldiers home to Ithaca. Though he presses forward, greater challenges lie ahead. We also see Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, anxiously awaiting his return while facing pressure from numerous suitors. A flashback reveals a poignant moment before the war, where Penelope pleads with Odysseus to promise he’ll return, and he responds with a heartbreaking “What if I can’t?”

The trailer features Tom Holland as Telemachus, the grown son of Odysseus, a stark contrast to the baby his father left behind when he went to war. The soldiers returning home just want to be with their families, but they’ll face a lot of trouble getting there. Back home, Odysseus’s family is struggling with their own challenges.
The film depicts Odysseus’s challenging journey home to Ithaca, showcasing the many obstacles he faces at sea. The first trailer also offers a brief look at the famous Trojan Horse and a clear view of Matt Damon in his role.
The film’s cast also features Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Zendaya as Athena, Charlize Theron as Circe, Jon Bernthal as Menelaus, Benny Safdie as Agamemnon, John Leguizamo as Eumaeus, Himesh Patel as Eurylochus, Mia Goth as Melantho, Jimmy Gonzales as Cepheus, and Bill Irwin as Polyphemus. Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, and a number of other talented actors round out the ensemble.
The Odyssey is all set to release in the theaters on July 17, 2026.
