Matt Damon, who famously played Mark Watney in The Martian, has been cast as Odysseus, the primary character and legendary king of Ithaca from Homer’s epic poem. Universal Pictures recently shared a sneak peek at Damon adorned in period costumes. In this first glimpse, we see the Good Will Hunting actor donning ancient Greek apparel, standing with his back to the camera, striking a pose reminiscent of Odysseus himself.

Prior to the formal reveal, there was a lot of buzz online about who might take on the role of the sorrowful Greek hero. Many believed it could be Tom Holland, but some were skeptical.
