The ‘New Focus’ Marvel Should Take with AVENGERS 5

As a longtime Marvel fan and comic book enthusiast, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing the complex and intriguing relationship between Doom and Kang over the years. Their dynamic is always filled with tension and unpredictability, making them one of the most captivating villain duos in the Marvel Universe.

The Russo Brothers are reportedly in negotiations with Marvel to helm the next two “Avengers” films. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” “Avengers 5” will have a new title and a fresh direction. Previously announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, the upcoming “Avengers” movie was titled “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” with Jonathan Majors’ character Kang the Conqueror set to be the main antagonist. However, following Majors’ termination from the project, this plan has been revised. San Diego Comic-Con 2024 is approaching, and it’s expected that Kevin Feige will reveal the new plan during Marvel’s Hall H presentation. In the meantime, here are some suggestions for what shape we’d like to see the next “Avengers” movie take.

Avengers: Dark Reign

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve always been used to facing off against formidable foes one at a time with my favorite superhero squad, the Avengers. But what if things were about to take a turn for the more challenging? What if we were up against an entire super team of anti-heroes and villains?

As a gamer, I can imagine retelling this comic book storyline like this: In the Dark Reign saga, I found myself leading the Thunderbolts, a team once overshadowed by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. But things took a dark turn when our supposedly reformed leader, Norman Osborn, aka Green Goblin, seized control. He manipulated circumstances to claim responsibility for stopping the Skrull invasion, and in doing so, rose to power.

Marvel may want to put Kang behind them, but it’s worth considering how to handle the Council of Kangs introduced in the post-credits scene of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.” With their determination to cause multiverse chaos, addressing these villains could bring some resolution. In “Avengers 5,” the Avengers might devise a strategy to eliminate the Kangs. However, the Thunderbolts could interfere and claim victory, becoming the new leading super team while leaving the Avengers sidelined.

As a devoted gamer immersed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’d put it this way:

As a longtime fan of Marvel Comics and the MCU, I’m always excited to see how the stories I love are brought to life on the big screen. And when it comes to the Avengers saga, there’s no shortage of epic tales that could potentially make for amazing movies. One such story is “Secret Wars,” which has intrigued me since its original comic book run in 1984.

During Dark Reign, Osborn established a malevolent version of the Illuminati named the Cabal. Notably included in their ranks was Doctor Doom. Introducing Doom into the MCU through an “Avengers: Dark Reign” film presents an excellent opportunity (provided he doesn’t appear in 2025’s “Fantastic Four” beforehand). As the Avengers and the Dark Avengers engage in a brutal conflict, Doom would secretly be orchestrating his own plan for dominion, paving the way for “Secret Wars.”

Avengers vs. X-Men

As an avid Marvel fan, I can’t help but get excited about the trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine” that shows them leaping into one of Doctor Strange’s swirling portals. If they end up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) on the other side, it could lead to some major consequences. I mean, imagine if other X-Men from the X-verse joined them? The potential for conflict between two iconic superhero teams would be immense! It’s a fanboy’s dream come true – just like in the epic 2012 comic event “Avengers vs. X-Men.”

The Earth’s strongest superheroes engaging in an epic battle against the Children of Atom on the silver screen is an enticing prospect. Previously, we received new Avengers films (even two at a time) during each phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Phase Four and Five have left fans yearning for more. A crossover event film like AvX would undoubtedly make up for the absence. Witnessing heroes such as Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Thor square off against mutants including Magneto, Wolverine, and Storm is an exciting thought. Although a plot may not be necessary to validate this encounter, we have some potential ideas nonetheless.

Although the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine” is still pending, and the final outcome for the X-Men remains uncertain, the decaying 20th Century Fox emblem in the film previews leaves us pondering if this movie could potentially annihilate the X-Men universe. If Deadpool and Wolverine manage to safeguard their mutant comrades by transporting them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), or merging the X-verse with it, then the Avengers might perceive this as an intrusion of their domain by strange beings endowed with remarkable abilities. It’s understandable that they would clash. In the comics, the X-Men and the Avengers engaged in a brutal conflict over the destiny of the Phoenix to secure their existence as a species. In this hypothetical “AvX” film, the X-Men would be outsiders struggling for survival amidst a universe that despises and dreads them.

As a longtime comic book enthusiast and avid Marvel Universe fan, I cannot help but be intrigued by the rumors circulating around “AvX: Avengers vs. X-Men.” With my extensive knowledge of Marvel’s complex narrative and my keen eye for detail, I believe that if this crossover event does indeed merge various Marvel universes, it would undoubtedly pique the interest of none other than Doctor Doom.

In the contemporary “Secret Wars” comic series by Marvel, the multiverse is annihilated and leaves only ashes in its wake. Emerging from the ruins is Doctor Doom, who seizes control and establishes a new realm where he reigns supreme as the almighty God Emperor Doom. With the convergence of the MCU and X-Verse unfolding before him, Doctor Doom could be motivated to orchestrate an even grander merger – combining every universe in the multiverse into one harmonious realm tailored solely for his rule.

In the comic books, it’s noteworthy that Doom has previously managed to threaten Kang’s existence. Introducing Doom early on could potentially simplify Marvel’s dilemma with Kang. In the comics, Doom and Kang have a complex history as adversaries and allies. Doom has attempted to eliminate Kang multiple times, such as ordering his death during the “Secret Wars” and attempting to kill young Kang before he rose to power in the 2021 “Kang the Conqueror” series.

Avengers: Children’s Crusade

The Multiverse Saga often faces criticism for lacking a cohesive storyline that binds all the elements together. However, a comic book story from 2010, “Avengers: Children’s Crusade,” could serve as a potential basis for “Avengers 5.” In this narrative, the Young Avengers embark on a journey to find their friend Wiccan’s long-lost mother, the Scarlet Witch. This action-packed adventure involves encounters with various teams like the Avengers and X-Men, ultimately leading them to confront Marvel’s most sinister villain.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has all the necessary elements ready for this story. For a long time, Marvel has been preparing the audience for the Young Avengers. In “The Marvels,” Ms. Marvel took the initiative, similar to Nick Fury, to seek out and recruit every member, as hinted in the movie’s post-credits scene. This tale will be the catalyst for their first assembly.

In the show “WandaVision,” new characters Billy and Teddy were introduced, and it looks like a teenage Wiccan will be a significant player in the upcoming series “Agatha All Along.” Previously, the Scarlet Witch turned dark in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and appeared to pass away. Yet, the last flicker of red magical energy at her demise suggests she may not truly be gone.

As a long-time fan of both the X-Men and the Avengers, I’m thrilled to see the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) introducing mutants into their expanding universe. Having grown up reading comic books and watching animated series featuring these iconic characters, their stories have shaped my imagination and influenced my love for superheroes.

When our heroes finally locate Wanda, an unexpected development unfolds – she’s accompanied by none other than Doctor Doom. It turns out that Doom was the mastermind behind Wanda’s escalating powers, leading to the occurrences in “Avengers: Disassembled” and “House of M.” This twist may come as a surprise for many Marvel fans, who were taken aback by Wanda’s descent into darkness in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Given Doom’s reputation as a brilliant scientist and sorcerer, it’s plausible that he discovered a way to harness Wanda’s magical abilities.

In the final pages of Children’s Crusade comic, Doom snatches Wanda’s god-like abilities for himself and embarks on an enchanting spree of power misuse. With Doctor Doom wielding the Scarlet Witch’s reality-bending powers, it sets up a thrilling premise for Secret Wars that I can hardly wait to explore!
