A fresh take on The Mummy is coming soon, and it’s a significant departure from previous movies. Blumhouse has just shared a first look – including a teaser trailer, images, and the official poster – for the new film, directed by Lee Cronin.
This new installment of the project departs significantly from the adventurous tone of the earlier films starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, embracing a much more frightening horror approach.
I’m really intrigued by this new Blumhouse film! It’s about a journalist whose daughter vanishes in the desert, and then, unbelievably, reappears eight years later. But it’s not the happy ending you’d expect – the trailer hints that her return unleashes something truly frightening and old. I’ve marked April 17th on my calendar – that’s when it hits theaters, and I can’t wait to see what’s been happening all these years!

The brief teaser immediately creates a dark and unsettling atmosphere. It opens with a scene of someone being unwrapped, filmed as it happens. Throughout, eerie chanting can be heard, gradually getting louder. The images flash by quickly, but each one is more disturbing than the last. The teaser culminates in screams and ends with a chilling question: “What happened to Katie?”

Cronin built anticipation for the new film by including a secret message in Morse code with the poster. The message described a world where ancient Egyptian spirits and visions of the dead were real, and some who died became trapped by a powerful, evil force. It warned, “Today it begins,” suggesting the story will center around dangerous ancient curses and the consequences of awakening them.
Director John Cronin described the new take on The Mummy as a complete reimagining of the story. He envisioned it as a mystery unfolding like a puzzle box, focusing on uncovering secrets through investigation. He likened the film’s atmosphere to a blend of Poltergeist and Seven, explaining he wanted to combine the heartwarming family dynamics of Poltergeist with the dark, suspenseful investigation and hidden clues of Seven. He’s a fan of both family-centered stories and intense mysteries, and this film aims to capture both elements.
Jack Reynor and May Calamawy star in the movie, supported by Laia Costa, Veronica Falcón, and a talented cast. James Wan and Jason Blum produced the film, which is the first project to come from the combined Blumhouse and Atomic Monster production companies, alongside New Line Cinema.
The Mummy has been reimagined many times, ranging from traditional horror to big-budget action films. This latest version aims to truly frighten viewers with a more intense and unsettling experience. The initial teaser has generated a lot of excitement, and audiences will discover just how scary this new take on the Mummy will be when it’s released in theaters this spring.
