Good news for fans of scary and funny movies! The popular parody series is returning to theaters after a long break. Miramax has approved a new movie, set to be released on June 12, 2025. What makes this comeback special is that the Wayans brothers, who originally created the series and made it a worldwide success, are back to lead the project.

Marlon Wayans has been hinting at what scary movies the next Scary Movie might poke fun at. He suggests they’re looking at recent hits like Heretic, Longlegs, and Smile, as well as older classics such as I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Sources also say the script will satirize the suspense of films like A Quiet Place and the extreme gore of Terrifier 3, meaning fans of both critically acclaimed horror and slasher films should find something to enjoy.

The next installment of the series will bring back fan favorites Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who will once again play Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks. They’ll be joined by several original cast members, including Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, and Chris Elliott. This reunion is particularly significant because the filmmakers famously departed the series after the second movie following disagreements with studio executives.

Marlon Wayans recently explained why he and his brothers didn’t participate in a third movie. They felt the proposed financial terms were unfair, especially considering how successful the first two films had been. The offer was essentially the same unfavorable deal they’d received previously. Looking back, Wayans described the negotiations as exploitative, even using the strong term ‘molested’ to illustrate how they were treated, referencing the problematic behavior of Harvey Weinstein.

Fans were happy to hear the Wayans family is returning, as some felt recent movies didn’t capture the witty and bold humor of the original two films, which made nearly $900 million worldwide. Rick Alvarez, who has often worked with the Wayans brothers on projects like A Haunted House, is helping write the script to keep the comedy consistent with their signature style.
