The Movie David Fincher Admits He Hates More Than Any Other

David Fincher, known for his impressive body of work, recently added the thriller The Killer to his filmography, though it received mixed reviews. However, one film from his past stands out as his biggest regret.

Despite ongoing discussions about its difficult production, Fincher consistently says he’s his own toughest critic when it comes to Alien 3, the controversial 1992 sequel he’s long distanced himself from.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Fincher described working on the film as a deeply challenging experience. He revealed he spent two years on the project, faced being fired three times, and constantly had to fight for his creative vision throughout the chaotic production.

Looking back on his early career, Fincher confessed he started his first big project with a somewhat unrealistic view of how the film industry worked. He described it as a harsh learning experience, admitting he initially thought everyone involved genuinely wanted to make the best possible film.

He soon realized that was naive, as the financial and distribution sides of the business often conflicted with his creative ideas. This challenging time changed his approach to directing, teaching him to be more confident and to strongly defend his artistic vision.

He remembered constantly trying to improve things on set, but studio executives often ignored his suggestions. He likened their response to the indistinct chatter in a Peanuts comic, feeling like he was passionately arguing for quality while those in charge simply weren’t interested.

Although Alien 3 did well in international markets, David Fincher considers it a disappointment. He quickly regained his reputation with his next film, the critically acclaimed crime thriller Se7en, which cemented his status as a leading director in the genre. Even though Fincher himself dislikes Alien 3, many viewers today recognize and appreciate the impressive technical skill on display in the film’s most visually compelling scenes.

David Fincher continues to be a highly in-demand director, and he has several exciting projects in the works, many of which are with Netflix. He’s currently finalizing The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a spin-off based on Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Brad Pitt is reprising his Oscar-winning role in the film, which is expected to be released this summer, potentially in theaters.

In addition to his work with Brad Pitt, David Fincher is developing Squid Game: America, a new English-language series based on the popular South Korean show. Filming is expected to start shortly, and this project will significantly expand the Squid Game universe, with Fincher bringing his dark and critical style to a version set in the United States.
