The Monkey Teaser: Theo James Is Covered In Blood In Osgood Perkins’ Upcoming Stephen King Adaptation

As a seasoned connoisseur of chilling cinematic experiences, having traversed through countless haunted hallways and shadowy abodes in search of the next pulse-pounding fright, I must say that “The Monkey” has piqued my interest in ways that few horror films have managed to do. With its pedigree rooted in the macabre mastery of Stephen King‘s short story and the unparalleled expertise of James Van, co-creator of The Conjuring Universe, this film promises to be a chilling adventure not soon forgotten.

“The Monkey is overseen by writer-director Osgood Perkins, known for his work on Longlegs, and produced by James Wan, renowned for co-creating hit horror movies such as The Conjuring, Insidious, Annabelle, The Nun, and M3gan. A chilling 44-second trailer offers a glimpse into what seems to be a monkey under a spell, with actor Theo James drenched in blood from head to toe.”

According to Stephen King’s famous short story titled “The Monkey,” the narrative centers on identical twins Bill and Hall, portrayed by James in both roles. They stumble upon their father’s old, haunted toy hidden in the attic of their childhood home. This toy, infused with malevolent energy, leads to a series of gruesome deaths.

After the incident, the brothers drift apart, but when a string of enigmatic and tragic deaths restart, they come together to put an end to the haunted monkey toy once and for all. James welcomes Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Laura Mennell, Sarah Levy, Colin O’Brien, and Rohan Campbell to join him in this mission. The talented Canadian child actor, Christian Convery, completes the cast.

The Monkey is Perkins’ most recent terrifying film following Longlegs, a demonic detective thriller featuring Nicholas Cage and Maika Monroe. This production surpassed the box office earnings of A24’s Talk to Me, making it the highest-grossing independent horror movie in North America.

In collaboration, the original writer joined forces with the Perkins group to script the movie. Dave Caplan, Jason Cloth, Michael Clear, as well as several other producers, are involved in producing this film. Notable executive producers include Fred Berger, Ali Jazayeri, Chris Ferguson and more.

The Monkey will hit the theaters on February 21, 2025.
