‘The Marvels’ Producer Hints at a Sequel, but Some Fans Are Reluctant to Get Onboard: “We are not ready”

As a long-time Marvel fan who’s witnessed the highs and lows of the MCU since its inception, I can’t help but feel a mix of disappointment and uncertainty about the direction Disney is taking with ‘The Marvels’. The financial performance of the film was undeniably underwhelming, and while I appreciate the post-credits scene hinting at potential future stories, it’s hard not to be skeptical given the current narrative chaos that Phase 4 has left us with.

2023 presented some tough hurdles for Disney, as it was the first time in a while that their studio failed to produce a film earning over $1 billion, and several of their Marvel Studios productions didn’t meet expectations.

In November 2023, the movie ‘The Marvels’ was expected to not match the box office earnings of ‘Captain Marvel’. However, the degree of its financial losses turned out to be unexpectedly high.

1) As of now, ‘The Marvels’ is the smallest earner among all MCU films so far and failed to surpass $100 million in domestic ticket sales – a feat that all other MCU movies have achieved. Given this, it’s not surprising that industry experts hinted at plans for ‘Captain Marvel 3’ being put on hold temporarily. Furthermore, rumors emerged that the Disney+ miniseries centering Monica Rambeau has been canceled due to the underperformance of ‘The Marvels.’

Although these advancements have been made, producer Mary Livanos indicates there could be more to come. In an interview with ComicBook, Livanos hinted that viewers should keep an eye out for the full potential of the post-credits scene involving Beast and Maria Rambeau, Monica’s mother.

“I think fans and myself will have to tune in to find out,”

Fans did not respond well to that answer, and many expressed their concerns.

Although The Marvels didn’t impress me, I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing Kelsey Grammer once more as Beast. His portrayal of the character was spot-on.

Considering the present condition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), often perceived as narratively complex by many viewers, it’s understandable for fans to harbor doubts. The Phase 4 has introduced several plot inconsistencies and unfinished story arcs, leaving the fate of characters such as Maria, Monica, and Beast in a state of ambiguity within this uncertain narrative landscape.
