The new animated movie, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, has been delayed and will no longer be released in October 2026.
The movie will debut only on Paramount+, which will now be the main streaming platform for all animated projects created by Avatar Studios – the team known for the popular Nickelodeon show, Avatar: The Last Airbender, according to Deadline.
I’m really excited to hear that the world of Avatar is expanding! Not only are they working on a new movie, but Avatar: Safe Havens, a series, is coming to Paramount+ too, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s all being produced by Avatar Studios – they launched that back in 2021 specifically to build out the universe of the original Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, which is fantastic news for fans like me.
The voice cast for the upcoming Legend of Aang movie is impressive! Joining previously announced stars like Dave Bautista, Eric Nam, Jessica Matten, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, and Steven Yeun are exciting additions including Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Peta Sergeant, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan.
Lauren Montgomery is the director of the film, with Steve Ahn and William Mata as co-directors. Latifa Ouaou, Maryann Garger, Bryan Konietzko, and Michael Dante DiMartino – the creators of the original animated show – are producing. Jeremy Zuckerman, who composed the music for the original series, is also returning to score both the movie and the new series.
Jane Wiseman, who leads original programming for Paramount+, announced that the streaming service will be the only place to watch animated stories from the Avatar Universe. She stated that The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven Havens will continue the epic storytelling fans love, with a talented cast and crew bringing these adventures to life.
Moving new movies and shows directly to streaming is part of Paramount+’s plan to bring all animated content from the world of Avatar together in one place. This means fans will be able to watch both familiar favorites and new stories from the franchise without having to go to the cinema.
