As Joel presents Ellie with a new guitar, he first serenades her with the tune of “Future Days” by Pearl Jam.
Indeed, the lyrics serve a significant function in the narrative and portray Joel and Ellie’s journey: “If I were to ever lose you, I’d undoubtedly lose my own self. Everything precious I’ve discovered, I didn’t uncover on my own… I trust, and I trust because I can envision our future together, our days as you and me.
If you missed it earlier, the opening of the game depicts Joel being viciously killed by Abby. The distressing aspect is that Ellie is forced to witness Joel’s death.
