Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 2.
In the fourth installment of The Last of Us Season 2, Bella Ramsey’s character Ellie and Isabela Merced’s character Dina experienced a significant shift. During their pursuit of Abby, they found themselves in grave danger. Their run-in with WLF soldiers culminated in a dramatic moment where Ellie rescued Dina from an Infected.
It was then that Dina discovered Ellie’s immune status, which took her by surprise. Normally, a bite from an Infected transforms a human into a monster, but when Ellie didn’t, Dina became suspicious. She kept Ramsey under close watch with a gun all night long.
Until Ellie clarified her immune status, Dina wouldn’t let her go. In yet another surprising development, it turned out that Dina was expecting Jesse’s child. Following a whirlwind of feelings, they eventually confessed their emotions towards one another and wept.
Kate Herron, the director of the episode, spoke to Deadline about the relationship between Ellie and Dina, highlighting its tense nature due to their frequent exposure to danger and limited opportunities for peaceful discussions or happy moments.
Herron disclosed that she shot several alternative takes for the scene to achieve the perfect emotional pitch. She reminisced about her conversation with Ramsey regarding their method for that particular moment. In one instance, Herron proposed that the actor refrain from looking directly at Merced and instead portray a bashful demeanor.
The director mentioned that each participant in the scene was clear about the message they intended to communicate, resulting in its genuine and authentic feel. She further noted, “This scene is truly remarkable.” Additionally, the installment delved into the character of Isaac, played by Jeffrey Wright.
The narrative commences by delving into the character’s troubled past associated with FEDRA, shedding light on his grim history. “I adore every location the television series has extended beyond the game, or led us to unforeseen paths,” Herron expressed.
The story starts off by going back in time, showing the character’s turbulent past within FEDRA. “I appreciate every place the TV show has explored beyond the game, and taken us on surprising journeys we didn’t anticipate,” Herron said.
The Last of Us Season 2 is now streaming on Max.
