During an interview with People magazine, he referred to it as “unbelievable events” and commented, “You sometimes wonder if those things actually transpired when looking back.
Referencing the classic film, Lowe explained that it was “remarkable” to see people dressing up as his character Billy Hicks for Halloween. This was the first time he had ever witnessed someone impersonating him in such a way. He reminisced about being on the balcony, watching someone get out of a car below, dressed as his character. The individual carried a saxophone, sported an earring, had messily-styled hair, and wore a Hawaiian shirt.
The actor achieved peak popularity thanks to the success of the previously mentioned movie as well as other productions like The Outsiders and Oxford Blues. In an interview, he shared a memory about being transported in a police car to and from the set of St. Elmo’s Fire – quite an unusual ride for him. Martin Sheen, known for his role on The West Wing, mentioned that in today’s world, either Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, or maybe even Austin Butler, is the one leading a life similar to what we know. However, he emphasized that there will always be someone living such a life.
The seasoned actor openly talked about his difficulties adjusting to the limelight and its impact on him. Lowe admitted that he was uncomfortable with it, a sensation he didn’t fully grasp until much later when he delved into self-examination during his recovery period. To this day, he has successfully maintained 34 years of abstinence.
