As a long-time admirer of the McQueen family dynasty, I am deeply saddened by the passing of Chad McQueen, the charismatic star of The Karate Kid and the son of the legendary Steve McQueen. Growing up in Malibu, California, I always felt a connection to this talented man who followed in his father’s footsteps while carving out his unique path in Hollywood.
63-year-old Chad McQueen, famously known for his role in The Karate Kid and being Steve McQueen’s son, has tragically passed away due to organ failure. According to his longtime friend Arthur Barens, McQueen breathed his last at his ranch in Palm Desert.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, he fell in 2020 and although he managed to survive, he didn’t fully regain his health afterwards.
Chad McQueen gained fame for portraying the character of Dutch, the school bully, in The Karate Kid and its subsequent sequel. He made an appearance in both the initial Karate Kid films but opted out from participating in the later installments of the series.
In addition to The Karate Kid, McQueen appeared in films such as Skateboard (released in 1978), Martial Law (1991), New York Cop (1993), Death Ring (1992), Red Line (1995), and others.
In the tradition set by Steven McQueen, who was famously known for The Great Escape, his father Chad established McQueen Racing back in 2010. This family-run business focuses on high-performance automobiles and is now managed by his children, Chase and Madison.
Chadwick Stevens McQueen, born on December 28, 1960, in Los Angeles and raised in Malibu, entered the world as the son of Neile Adams, a Filipino-born actress who was married to Hollywood icon Steve McQueen from 1956 until their separation in 1972.
Afterward, Chase and Madison acknowledged their dad on Instagram, expressing gratitude for his affection, dedication, and ardor towards auto racing, vowing to continue his legacy in the sport.
McQueen’s children Chase and Madison took to Instagram to express their grief in a statement:
His incredible journey, marked by his deep affection for us and his steadfast devotion to our mom, served as a powerful testament of a life that embodied love and devotion.
They stated, “We plan on carrying forward both his and our grandfather’s legacies. As a family, we must face this challenging period, and we politely request seclusion while we reflect upon and honor his remarkable life.
Chad McQueen is mourned by his mother, second spouse Jeanie, as well as their kids Chase, Madison, and Steven (who appeared in The Vampire Diaries and its offshoot Legacies). Donations are welcome for Boys Republic in his honor, an organization dedicated to offering homes for children in need.
