MGM Plus has greenlit another eight episodes for the second season of “The Institute”, a series that’s based on Stephen King’s 2019 novel. This chilling drama marks MGM+’s most successful series debut so far, and it was none other than Stephen King himself who shared this exciting news across his social media platforms.
I’ve recently completed Season 1, and I found it incredibly enjoyable. It’s also produced by the same team behind Lost, and airs on MGM+, a show that I personally adore.

Season 2 on the Way
As a captivated observer, I’m thrilled to share that “The Institute,” a remarkable series focused on children endowed with extraordinary abilities, concluded its first season last Sunday. Stephen King himself hinted at an intriguing twist in the upcoming second season, teasing, “Having been set free but still hunted, the ex-residents of the Institute are about to encounter fresh perils I can hardly wait to witness unfold!
Jack Bender and Benjamin Cavell, being executive producers, expressed that the robust reaction to Season 1 encouraged them to believe there were more stories yet to be shared. Michael Wright, head of MGM+, praised the series as a faithful adaptation of King’s voice on-screen, and confirmed that Season 2 will delve further into the mysteries hidden within the facility.

The Team Behind the Series
The series “The Institute” is overseen by a team of executive producers, which includes Stephen King, Jack Bender, Benjamin Cavell, Gary Barber, Sam Sheridan, and Ed Redlich. Jack Bender is also responsible for directing the show. MGM+ Studios are the production company behind the series, while Amazon MGM Studios Distribution handles its international distribution.
Season 1 Cast
In the first season, Ben Barnes, known for his roles in “Marvel’s Daredevil” and “Shadow and Bone”, portrayed ex-police officer Tim Jamieson. Meanwhile, Joe Freeman took on the role of teen prodigy Luke Ellis. The cast also featured Mary-Louise Parker, Simone Miller, Fionn Laird, Jason Diaz, and Jane Luk. Story Recap
The story revolves around Luke Ellis, a character who gets abducted and subsequently finds himself within The Institute, a clandestine establishment that shelters children endowed with extraordinary talents. While confined, Luke plots to outmaneuver his captors, and his journey intersects with Jamieson’s, an individual yearning for a fresh beginning in a neighboring town.
