Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are expected to reprise their roles in a new Hunger Games film, titled “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” according to recent news.
Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are likely to reprise their roles as Katniss and Peeta in brief appearances. Details about these cameos are currently being kept under wraps, but knowing the characters reappear in the book’s epilogue with Haymitch, the movie might be set sometime in the future.
The new film is adapted from Suzanne Collins’ newest book and takes place during the 50th Hunger Games – decades before the events involving Katniss and Peeta. It’s a prequel that tells the story of a young Haymitch Abernathy, at age sixteen, and is brought to life by actor Joseph Zada, who takes on the role previously played by Woody Harrelson.
I was completely captivated watching this film – it shows exactly how he became the incredible mentor we all admire. It details the harsh trials he faced in the arena and everything that molded him into the person he is today. It really puts his wisdom and strength into perspective!
I can’t believe it – they just announced the 50th Hunger Games are starting! I’m already planning to be in the theater, or even better, IMAX, on November 20, 2026, to see The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

The new Hunger Games film, “Sunrise on the Reaping,” will be released on November 20, 2026. Francis Lawrence, who has directed the Hunger Games movies since “Catching Fire” in 2012, is directing again. Billy Ray wrote the screenplay, and Brad Simpson and Nina Jacobson are returning to produce. With the series having already made over $3.3 billion worldwide, Lionsgate is hoping to keep the success going.
I’m so excited about the new cast! It’s going to be really interesting seeing younger versions of characters we already love. Elle Fanning is taking on the role of Effie Trinket – Elizabeth Banks did an amazing job, but I can’t wait to see Elle’s take. And Ralph Fiennes as President Snow? Wow! He’s following in the footsteps of Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth, who both played Snow before, and I have a feeling he’ll be incredible.
Kieran Culkin now plays Caesar Flickerman, a role previously played by Stanley Tucci. Jesse Plemons takes on the part of Plutarch Heavensbee, who was originally played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. The cast also includes Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Mckenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV.
