Towards the close of Season 2, the atmosphere is charged as armies assemble, signaling that though some skirmishes have taken place, the conflict is only escalating. Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), in her strategic move, enlists three additional dragon riders, causing even the mighty Vhagar to show signs of discomfort. However, the Greens continue to pose a significant threat.

In the final episode of Season 2, there are clues indicating momentous occurrences in Season 3. This upcoming season is predicted to be filled with intensity, a notion supported by George R.R. Martin’s writings. As various crucial elements align, we can expect significant showdowns.

In the book, one pivotal moment is the fall of King’s Landing, which seems imminent in Season 3. The ending suggests that Rhaenyra intends to capture the city from her wounded half-brother, Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), by means of a clandestine agreement with Alicent (Olivia Cooke).

While Vhagar and Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) are gone for three days, Rhaenyra finds herself with limited time to make her moves. In the narrative, the Green Army successfully recaptures the largely vacant Harrenhal, yet they face a challenging journey ahead as they strive to seize control of the Riverlands.

In Season 3, we’ll witness the characters’ advancements, especially since Aemond enters the action. Additionally, the series may explore the Battle of Tumbleton, a pivotal moment where Rhaenyra’s dragon riders shift allegiances, providing the Greens with a strategic advantage.

In terms of structure, Fire & Blood doesn’t dictate every detail for House of the Dragon, and Season 2 has introduced some variations from the source material. For instance, Otto Hightower is currently confined in an undisclosed location, while Gwayne Hightower is accompanying Cole on his journey. Furthermore, Rhaena’s narrative has been reworked; in the finale, she comes across a wild dragon, hinting that she may eventually claim it.
