THE GREATEST SHOWMAN Director May Take on the Live-Action Remake of Disney’s TANGLED

As a gamer with a soft spot for Disney classics and a keen eye for business strategies, I must say that I find myself both excited and apprehensive about the live-action remake of Tangled. Growing up in the golden era of Disney’s animation renaissance, I vividly remember the magic of watching Rapunzel navigate her tower, Flynn Rider charm his way into our hearts, and Mother Gothel weave her wicked schemes.

As a die-hard Disney fan, I can’t help but be swept away by the unstoppable momentum of the live-action remake train! The latest animated masterpiece set to receive an update at Disney is none other than the enchanting tale of Tangled. According to recent reports from Deadline, The Greatest Showman‘s director, Michael Gracey, is considering taking the helm for a live-action version of the beloved Disney animated adaptation of Rapunzel. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who has penned the screenplays for Thor: Love and Thunder and the upcoming remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer, is the one responsible for the latest script. So, it’s time to start brainstorming our dream castings for Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and Mother Gothel!

Compared to the ongoing remake of Moana, Tangled deviates significantly from Disney’s previous approach to live-action adaptations. While earlier remakes like Alice in Wonderland (2010), Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King were adaptations of classics from several generations ago, Tangled was released only a decade back in 2010. Unlike other remakes like Cinderella (65 years after its animated version), both Tangled and Moana still seem fresh, with their contemporary styles. A new modern adaptation of these films feels somewhat unnecessary or redundant.

Regarding Disney’s live-action remakes, even though we might not like it, there’s no denying they have been a significant money-making machine for the studio. Movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and Aladdin each grossed over a billion dollars at the box office. Given this success, it’s logical that Disney would capitalize on their more recent hits, which are still fresh in viewers’ minds. This may be why they opted to release films like Pinocchio and Cruella exclusively on Disney+, but the upcoming Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs seems to break this trend. If a Tangled remake proves successful, Frozen won’t be far behind, so brace yourself for “Let it Go” to return to your daily life again.
