Gamers are eagerly anticipating the mining environment in Gothic, a sandbox mining colony from the 2001 RPG that is currently being remade. This cherished and quirky game has such a strong following that its demo version has recently been updated for immediate play.
“There’s a new demo in town! Developer Alkimia Interactive has been closely monitoring and analyzing player feedback since the release of the Gothic 1 Remake demo—the so-called Nyras Prologue—in February. More than 15,000 players completed the survey, with even more feedback coming in via social media, Steam forums, and the official Discord server,” said Alkimia in an update posted alongside a mini making-of documentary about its work on the demo.
For numerous gamers, particularly those in Europe and the UK, Gothic was a groundbreaking, essential first role-playing game due to its expansive, open-world setting and multiple paths for progression within the storyline. The demo recently unveiled during this year’s Steam Next Fest serves as an introductory tale centered around a secondary character from the original game.
On THQ Nordic’s website, they provided a comprehensive breakdown of the updates made to the demo version. The changes most noticeable to players are quicker character movement, collection, and loot animation adjustments, which collectively enhance the character’s sense of mobility and responsiveness.
In the recently released video discussing updates for Alkimia, the developers openly admit an annoying glitch that occurs when strikes don’t seem to connect, despite your sword seemingly penetrating a goblin’s face (my personal pet peeve).
Last year, when we gained more insight into it, Robin Valentine from PC Gamer observed that the Gothic 1 Remake appears to be “surprisingly overzealous and glitchy to an even greater extent than the original game.
You can find Gothic 1 Remake Demo: Nyras Prologue on Steam, where it’s free.
