Amazon is creating a documentary series about the Gilgo Beach murders, a well-known and disturbing crime that shocked Long Island.
I’m really excited about this series! It’s being made by Nacelle Company and Empress Films, and I heard Emma Cooper, who started Empress Films, is directing – that’s fantastic!
The story follows Rex Heuermann, an architect from New York who was arrested in 2023 and accused of murdering seven women on Long Island.
Rex Heuermann is accused of murdering several women, including the Gilgo Four – Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, Amber Lynn Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes – as well as Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valerie Mack. He is currently preparing for his trial.
Prime Video says the series will delve into the details of the murders, focusing on how they affected the victims’ families and the efforts of the police investigation.
Emma Cooper, an executive producer at Empress Films with Eben Davidson, shared that working on this story was a deeply meaningful experience. She emphasized the importance of listening to the families involved and witnessing the dedication of law enforcement, describing it as both heartbreaking and essential. Cooper stressed that the story belongs to these families and expressed her gratitude to Amazon MGM Studios for allowing her to tell it truthfully and with sensitivity.
Lauren Anderson, who leads brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios, said that telling the stories of the victims’ families was a deeply moving and humbling experience for the entire team.
Brian Volk-Weiss, Cisco Henson, Matt Ochacher, and Phil Donlon will be the executive producers of the series for Nacelle Company.
Amazon is adding to the growing number of streaming services covering the Long Island serial killer case. Other platforms that have explored the story include Netflix with *Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer*, Peacock’s *The Gilgo Beach Killer: House of Secrets*, and a series hosted by Nancy Grace on Investigation Discovery.
