The Game Awards didn’t honor the second, or third best sports game of 2024

As someone who’s been covering gaming awards since the days of the Arcade Expo, I’ve seen it all – from Pong to VR. And let me tell you, The Game Awards 2024 left me scratching my head more than a Rubik’s cube on steroids!

It’s clear that The Game Awards didn’t seem to favor College Football 25, which is surprising given its status as the bestselling game of 2024. It’s not uncommon for popular games to be overlooked in award shows, but I was taken aback when EA Sports FC 25 won the Best Sports Game category instead.

If you’re a fan who typically purchases it once every 3-4 years, now would be an ideal time to grab a copy. For those whose favorite wrestlers from this year’s roster might not return next year, keeping WWE 2K24 on your hard drive seems like a smart choice.

If neither popularity nor reviews are considered, it leaves us wondering what factors are being taken into account instead. If a deserving contender gets overlooked in award seasons, that’s just how awards can sometimes go. On the other hand, if the worst game in the category takes home the prize, then there might have been an error or issue with the selection process.

If Texture Groups of America (TGA) made such significant errors in a particular category, it raises some major doubts about the authenticity of any accolades they bestow.
