The project began taking shape on December 7, 2023, when 50 Cent announced he was creating a documentary series about Sean Combs. He also stated that any profits from the series would be donated to support individuals who have accused Combs of s abuse and re.
Netflix officially started working on the project on September 25, 2024. This followed an arrest one week earlier involving Combs, who faced serious charges including racketeering and sex trafficking.
Following Netflix’s announcement of the series, director Alex Stapleton and 50 Cent released a statement emphasizing the show’s importance and complexity. They explained that it’s a decades-spanning story that goes beyond recent headlines and focuses on giving a platform to those who haven’t been heard. While acknowledging the serious allegations, they stressed that Sean Combs’ story represents only one part of hip-hop’s rich history and that the show will highlight the broader cultural impact of the genre, rather than focusing solely on individual actions.
50 Cent, Alex Stapleton, and David Karabinas are executive producers on the series. The recently released trailer is generating a lot of buzz, and audiences are eagerly anticipating the documentary’s full release on Netflix in December.
