THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Won’t Have MCU Easter Eggs and Other Heroes

The Amazing Four: Initial Journeys

This summer, prepare for the takeoff of The Amazing Four: Initial Journeys, a captivating tale that revolves around a renowned quartet battling a lethal cosmic entity. Despite being the 37th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), this film promises to deviate from recent trends.

Unlike typical MCU films, which often feature cameos or numerous Easter eggs, director Matt Shakman has revealed that The Amazing Four: Initial Journeys will stand alone and not link up with previous movies. Instead, it will offer a fresh and unique experience for fans.

Shakman agreed, “We are each our unique cosmos.” This idea is both inspiring and empowering. There’s no need for additional superheroes. No secret clues or hidden Easter eggs. Here, they are the only heroes, in their universe. I appreciate the intricate Marvel Universe, but we have the chance to create something entirely novel and distinct. Eventually, this world may connect with others, but for now, it’s our separate domain.

Absolutely, it’s common knowledge that the Fantastic Four will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, joining a multitude of other heroes in their battle. However, what makes their upcoming film, titled The Fantastic Four: First Steps, particularly appealing is its self-contained nature. You won’t need to delve into extensive background knowledge to appreciate it. Instead, this movie will serve as a captivating origin story that emphasizes the quartet’s expertise as astronauts rather than their roles as universe saviors endowed with superpowers.

Shakman stated, “This is all very reminiscent of the excitement surrounding the Space Race. It’s about JFK and his optimism, envisioning these four instead of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin venturing into space. The concept here is that they are renowned Americans not because they’re superheroes, but because they are adventurers, explorers, astronauts. And even after their space journey, they become superheroes. But fundamentally, they’re astronauts and a family.

The film will hit theaters on July 25.
