The Fans Have Ranked Their 10 Most Overpowered Superheroes

As a longtime comic book enthusiast, I must say that this list has certainly piqued my interest! It’s fascinating to see such a diverse array of characters from various universes gathered together based on their power levels.

Ranker is an online platform allowing individuals to rate anything, anytime, and any way they prefer. It’s a fan-driven ranking system that has no official ties to the creators or teams associated with the projects being ranked.

In a recent poll on Ranker, an extensive survey was conducted to identify the comic book superheroes considered most powerful. To offer you a more comprehensive understanding, our report will feature the top ten characters as selected by the site, along with our own insights and opinions, enhancing the overall content. (Please note that the powers and abilities listed here are sourced from Ranker and may be incomplete; they serve merely to demonstrate.)

Absolutely, given the significance of this list, we’ve chosen to share our findings with you. Here’s a rundown of the top 10 characters, starting from number 10 and moving up to the first place. We trust you’ll find it fascinating!

10. Sentry

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Superhuman speed

Starting off the list, Sentry is an interesting character. It can be challenging to perceive characters as overpowered because sometimes their abilities are justified. However, with Sentry, it’s hard to understand why he deserves such immense power. It appears as if he stumbled into his powers, and that’s essentially the story. Yet, Sentry is definitely a cool character!

9. Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Healing factor, Superhuman speed, Superhuman strength

Captain Marvel might not seem like the ideal fit for this list, given her exceptional abilities. While she acquired these powers unintentionally, she has since honed and refined them through effort and experience. Her overpowering nature is more a testament to her work and growth rather than the circumstances that initially granted her powers. Thus, despite her formidable strength, it could be argued that she doesn’t quite belong on this list.

8. Shazam

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Magic, Telepathy, Superhuman speed

Billy Batson acquired his abilities due to meeting the specific requirements – whatever they might have been. This tale offers a delightful twist for younger readers, suggesting even kids can participate in heroic acts. Conversely, the child was granted an immense collection of powers merely by being good, which is why it’s safe to say that Shazam stands among the most powerful superheroes in comic books.

7. Martian Manhunter

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Psychokinesis, Invisibility, Shapeshifting, Telepathy

From our perspective, it seems unfair to underestimate Martian Manhunter’s abilities just because he may have had a few less powers compared to other characters. Being an alien, he doesn’t abide by the same rules as humans. So, it makes perfect sense that he would possess numerous capabilities. We find it hard to agree with this list due to his unique extraterrestrial nature and the balance created by his obvious weaknesses.

6. Silver Surfer

Powers & Abilities: Flight

In a way similar to Billy Batson transforming into Shazam, the Silver Surfer too is selected based on specific qualities. However, contrary to his reputation as merely a herald, the Silver Surfer is in fact an incredibly powerful and skilled character, which may seem disproportionate to his role. Nevertheless, considering these traits, it’s accurate to say that the Silver Surfer qualifies for this list.

5. Jean Grey

Powers & Abilities: Extrasensory perception, Flight, Psychokinesis, Telepathy, Eidetic memory

We love Jean Grey. She is a great character and her importance for the X-Men lore is undeniable, even though her story has been milked one too many times, but that is for another list. She is powerful, overpowered, in fact, and while she is somewhat of a “Wunderkind” in the lore, we still think that she could have a power or two less, although we’d place her lower on this list, as she is definitely not that big of a problem in a comparative context.

4. Franklin Richards

Powers & Abilities: Psychokinesis, Telepathy, Reality warping

Franklin Richards, a Marvel character, is exceptionally powerful among all others in the Marvel universe. This stems from his inherent abilities, making him stand out significantly. Despite being a well-rounded character with numerous admirable qualities, his power level sets him apart noticeably. We concur with this ranking and believe he deserves an even higher position on such lists; our personal opinion places him among the top three most powerful characters in the Marvel universe.

3. One-Punch Man

Powers & Abilities: Superhuman speed, Superhuman strength

The problem lies not in Saitama’s immense power, but rather in how he acquired such power. He became the strongest being in the universe through mere training, which seems unrealistic to some extent. However, considering One-Punch Man is a manga that thrives on gimmicks, it fits well within the narrative of the series. Nevertheless, we can’t deny that Saitama appears overpowered compared to other characters in this list, suggesting there should have been more diverse representations.

2. Superman

Powers & Abilities: Flight, Healing factor, Superhuman speed, Superhuman strength

To put it simply, although there’s some debate, we lean towards believing that Superman should indeed be included on this list. This is because he didn’t possess all his powers while on Krypton and acquired them due to the specific environment on Earth. While it’s true that his weakness adds an element of balance, overall, we think Superman is worthy of a spot on this list.

1. Scarlet Witch

Powers & Abilities: Reality warping

Regarding Scarlet Witch’s placement on our list of powerful magic users, it might seem off given her abilities, but considering numbers 2-4 are ranked lower than her, she would actually be towards the bottom of the list instead. This seems unfair to her character due to her extensive backstory and powers being well-defined in comparison.
