As someone who grew up in the 90s and early 00s, I can wholeheartedly agree with this list! The shows listed here were a huge part of my childhood, and revisiting them now brings back so many memories.
Ranker is an online platform where individuals can rank anything at their convenience, following their own preferences, without any official ties to the creators of the subject matter. Absolutely, given that this list is quite significant, we’ve chosen to share our findings with you. We’ll be presenting the top 10 outstanding shows on this list, ranked from 10th place down to the number one spot, which is considered the absolute best. We hope you’ll find it entertaining!
10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The initial run of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) series originally ranked at number 11, but as you’ll see in explanation number 4, it found its way onto this list. Regarded as an animated masterpiece from the ’80s and ’90s, the original series has maintained its position among the greatest cartoons of that era, solidifying the iconic status of these four legendary turtles. This is a highly cherished production, and we wholeheartedly concur with its inclusion on this list.
9. The Punisher
The Punisher television show was outstanding and complemented the other Marvel productions quite well. However, given the fierce competition, we’re genuinely amazed that it ranked among the top 10 shows, especially since series like Loki, Gotham, or The Flash were left out. Yet, we’re pleased to see it on the list as it was a highly acclaimed and intriguing series with an exceptional lead character skillfully portrayed by Jon Bernthal.
8. Batman Beyond
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my admiration for the groundbreaking sequel to the main DiniVerse animated series – “Batman Beyond.” At its time, it was a revolutionary departure from the norm, introducing Terry McGinnis and offering something fresh and exciting. Although it didn’t quite match the popularity of TAS in its initial release, over time, it has grown into a beloved cult classic. There’s no denying that both its exceptional storytelling and stunning animation make this series more than worthy of being included on any esteemed list like this one.
7. Spider-Man
Undeniably, the iconic ’90s Spider-Man animation was a must-have in our collection. It was Marvel’s ambitious endeavor to compete with the revolutionary DC animated series of the era, and they managed to make quite an impact. Today, Spider-Man stands as a historical gem in the realm of animated television, shaping generations and earning the title of a timeless classic. This series is certainly worthy of being included on this list.
6. The Boys
The Boys stands out as the second live-action show on this list, given that animated titles have taken over, and for a valid reason. However, The Boys offers something unique. It’s exceptional, thought-provoking, and extraordinarily smart, which is why fans adore it so deeply and why its inclusion here among these renowned animated series is well-deserved. Furthermore, the show itself is distinctive and it was bound to be included here.
5. X-Men: The Animated Series
Among other Marvel productions from the 90s, this particular series, featuring Spider-Man, stands out as one of the absolute best. Given its ongoing continuation, it’s clear how it earned a place at #5 on our list. Beyond that, it’s an exceptional show boasting captivating characters and some of the finest storytelling in superhero (animated) series, which is why we wholeheartedly concur with this assessment.
4. Justice League
In the early 2000s, these Justice League cartoons gained immense popularity, riding on the success of the Batman and Superman animated series. Even though it’s not quite as famous as TAS today, this show is still considered a classic by many fans worldwide. It demonstrates an excellent representation of the Justice League, a testament to its quality, pun intended. This listing combines both the original Justice League series and the Justice League Unlimited series, as they form a continuous narrative.
3. Superman & Lois
Although we thought it was excellent, we were taken aback when Superman & Lois made it to the top 10 and even reached the third spot. This unexpected success suggests that fans are really enjoying it, perhaps due to its compelling narrative, talented cast, and the fact that its conclusion is imminent, which might have prompted them to vote for it enthusiastically. We won’t mind this turn of events too much.
2. Daredevil
It’s widely believed that almost everyone would concur: among Marvel’s live-action shows, none surpasses “Daredevil” in terms of quality. With Charlie Cox delivering a standout performance, the show has become a timeless classic and one of the most cherished superhero series. The cast is exceptional, the narratives have been captivating, making it more than deserving to hold such a prominent place on this list.
1. Batman: The Animated Series
Is there any question that Batman: The Animated Series would secure the top position? Without a doubt, this series stands out as the exceptional superhero program, unmatched in quality and authenticity. Bruce Timm ensured top-notch production values, while Paul Dini delivered captivating storylines that have left an indelible mark on us. Batman: The Animated Series is not merely the best superhero show ever made; it ranks among the finest TV shows overall.
