The Fans Are Clear on Who They Want as Batman in Gunn’s DCU

As a die-hard DC fan with decades of comics under my belt and countless hours spent in the darkest corners of the Batcave, I can confidently say that the choice of Jensen Ackles as the next DCU’s Batman is not just a popular one, but the perfect one.

It’s widely acknowledged now that Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” turned out to be a hit. Since it introduced a second version of Batman in a universe distinct from the existing DCEU, many fans assumed it wouldn’t link up with James Gunn’s new DC Universe. However, as Matt Reeves’ standalone series moves forward independently, some adjustments made during the DC overhaul have given rise to the formation of the DCU.

Regardless of concerns among some fans that changes in the DCU might impact Reeves’ universe, it appears that Reeves won’t miss out on shaping his own world. For now, Gunn is set to carry on with his take on the character, while Reeves remains committed to Robert Pattinson’s portrayal.

In the upcoming DC Universe (DCU) venture titled “The Brave and the Bold,” the identity of the lead Batman character remains undecided. Although recent speculation suggests Warner Bros. is favoring Robert Pattinson, this possibility appears doubtful. As a result, we’re revisiting earlier rumors that hint at three possible candidates. Interestingly, the DCU fanbase has expressed their preference for who should portray Batman in this new project.

If you’re not aware, there are three individuals who have been suggested as strong contenders by fans; however, none of the candidates, including Gunn, has made any official comments on this matter yet. So, it’s important to clarify that these are just fan theories at this point. Now, let’s get back to discussing the potential choices – they are Jensen Ackles, known for his roles in Supernatural and The Boys (who has previously voiced Batman), Alan Ritchson (from Reacher), and Jake Gyllenhaal (whose impressive career speaks volumes).

A recent Reddit poll has shown a strong preference among fans for their chosen DC Universe’s Batman.

If you’re finding it hard to view the poll results, here’s a summary: Gyllenhaal came in third with 82 votes, followed closely by Ritchson in second place with 88 votes. However, Ackles led the pack with an impressive 166 votes, nearly double the combined total of the other two contenders. It seems that fans are strongly advocating for Ackles as the next Batman, a choice that makes perfect sense to many. Here’s a glimpse at some of the comments:

It’s great that, at this moment, many seem to think that Jensen Ackles is the top choice among the three options.

Especially considering the hate he gets on Reddit for some reason…

(I’m not talking about people who simply disagree with the fancast btw, I respect that opinion).

One key difference between him and the others might be that his passion appears genuine, as opposed to simply viewing the role as a stepping stone for his career. Instead, it seems he’s been a devoted fan for over a decade.

To ensure the success of these roles, portraying Superman and Batman in the DC Universe, Jensen Ackles’ commitment would need to be at its maximum level. This is what the DCU requires for its two most renowned DC characters of all time.

It’s clear that Jensen Ackles shares the same admiration for Superman as David Corenswet, and just like we observe David’s commitment in the gym, it’s likely that Jensen maintains a similar dedication in his fitness routine.

This is only one reason I have for why Jensen should play Batman, I could go on and on and on.

Gillenhal possesses a versatile acting talent that allows him to deliver captivating, mysterious, and lively performances – a truly dynamic spectrum of emotion.

As a gamer, I’ve seen plenty of skilled players, but I’ve been yearning for someone who could really master this character’s potential for ages now.

Wouldn’t mind seeing Ritchson in an Elseworlds film one day.

While Alan Ritchson’s build might be reminiscent of Batman, in my opinion, I don’t believe he would excel as Bruce Wayne. It’s crucial to note that a powerful physique isn’t the only factor when portraying Batman; acting skills are significantly more important.

I also never understood why people fancast Ackles as Batman.

As a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me express my personal opinion: Jake Gyllenhaal is an exceptionally talented actor, often overlooked compared to others like Jared Padalecki (Ackles) and Dave Bautista (Ritchson). While I hold them in high regard, when it comes to the depth of acting and versatility, they don’t quite measure up to Gyllenhaal. And for those who might be concerned about his size compared to Ritchson, rest assured that he has shown time and again that he can pack on the muscle when needed.
