As a long-time fan of both the Russo Brothers’ work and Millie Bobby Brown’s exceptional acting, the delay of “The Electric State” from its initial 2024 release window to March 2025 has left me feeling rather like a kid waiting for Christmas. However, given their track record with big-budget films, I trust that the wait will be worth it.
The release of Netflix’s movie “The Electric State,” featuring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, has been pushed back from its original 2024 window. Directed by the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony Russo), this much-anticipated sci-fi adventure is now expected to debut in March 2025. This delay coincides with the Russo Brothers’ commitments to their Marvel projects.
“The Electric State” is a movie based on Simon Stalenhag’s 2018 graphic novel of the same title, and it’s said to have a massive budget of approximately USD 320 million, which is comparable to that of the Avengers movies.”
2022 saw almost constant filming for the sci-fi epic, with wrapping up by February 2023, but unfortunately, the production process hasn’t been smooth sailing. According to World of Reel, in October 2022, a crew member reportedly experienced a non-production-related fatality, halting filming temporarily.
2025 might have seen reshoots and test screenings, but as per What’s On Netflix, the computer-generated imagery (CGI) production for the movie is currently halfway through. The high-profile Netflix film has been reported to have a substantial budget due to its elaborate visual effects and filming location.
In the post-apocalyptic American West, Millie Bobby Brown portrays Michelle, a teenage orphan, who journeys alongside a friendly yet enigmatic robot and a quirky wanderer, all in an attempt to locate her long-lost younger sibling.
In a creative twist, the Netflix movie directed by the Russo brothers takes the storyline from the 2018 graphic novel and sets it in a 1997 context. This innovative adaptation depicts individuals wearing VR helmets, engaging in a struggle against a menacing swarm of drones.
In the upcoming movie based on her novel “Nineteen Steps”, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Stanley Tucci, and Brown form the main cast. Meanwhile, Brian Cox, Anthony Mackie, and Billy Bob Thompson provide voiceovers for newly created characters. The Russo Brothers are in charge of direction, working from a script written by Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely, and author Simon Stalenhag.
While fans wait for The Electric State, the Russo Bros have been hard at work at Marvel for their forthcoming Avengers sequel, Doomsday.
The Russo Brothers have built a name for themselves in high-priced movie productions; their latest Netflix project, “The Gray Man,” cost approximately USD 200 million, while “Avengers: Endgame” carried an estimated USD 400 million price tag. They’ve also worked on films such as “You, Me and Dupree,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Civil War,” “Infinity War,” and more.
