For months now, there’s been a lot of uncertainty among those leaking information about the Oblivion remake, suggesting various release dates such as tomorrow, its anniversary, before June, this month, and so on, only to be followed by more speculation and delays. Now, we can put an end to all these rumors. The remake is indeed underway, but it hasn’t been released yet secretly (shadowdropped). Instead, Bethesda will be officially unveiling it tomorrow at 4pm BST/11am ET during a dedicated showcase.
The exact release date is still unclear, but considering the whispers about a “shadowdrop,” it seems probable that the launch will occur during tomorrow’s live stream.
A Fallout 3 Remaster Was Leaked, Too
Prior to Virtuos unintentionally disclosing several images depicting the backend of its site, skepticism among fans about the existence of the Oblivion remake was growing. However, there had already been ‘official’ confirmation as early as 2023. During the FTC’s case concerning the Microsoft-Activision Blizzard King acquisition, a presentation without redactions leaked, showing Bethesda’s intention to revive The Elder Scrolls 4.
Originally planned for release in the fiscal year of 2022, but due to it being a complete overhaul, it’s not unexpected that there have been delays. What’s intriguing about this leaked presentation is that it hints at a Fallout 3 ‘refresh’, scheduled for the fiscal year of 2024. This suggests that Oblivion might not be the only remake Bethesda is working on.
There’s been talk recently about whether or not Fallout 3 was actually cancelled, but a trustworthy source stated last week that it’s still in development, just not ready for release yet. This could serve as a nice interim game while we anticipate the arrival of Fallout 5, considering Bethesda is currently focused on The Elder Scrolls 6. However, according to FTC documents, it might not come out until the same year as TES6, so be prepared for a wait.
