The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Will Reportedly Be Revealed Soon, and Released Not Long After That

It’s rumored that Bethesda will unveil a remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion within the next few weeks, with plans to launch it shortly thereafter.

According to NatetheHate, who correctly disclosed the release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, he posted that a remake of Oblivion is expected to be unveiled sometime this month or in the following month, and this information was also confirmed by VGC.

The expected timeframe for its launch might be a bit more flexible; NatetheHate suggested it would probably arrive before June, while VGC hinted that it may debut as early as April.

In January, Mp1st reported on apparently accidentally released Oblivion remake details by a former employee at video game support studio Virtuos. Microsoft declined to comment when contacted by iggn.ru.

As per Mp1st, Virtuos is reportedly reimagining Bethesda’s cherished open-world role-playing game using Unreal Engine 5. This implies a substantial overhaul instead of just a typical remaster. It’s also claimed that modifications were outlined in the gameplay, such as adjustments to Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reaction, and the user interface (UI), commonly known as the heads-up display (HUD).

According to Mp1st’s report, the blocking system has been revised primarily for action games and Soulslikes, as it was previously perceived as dull and challenging. Now, sneak icons are said to be emphasized, and the damage calculation system has undergone a significant overhaul. Additionally, it is reported that triggering a knockdown when Stamina is depleted has become more difficult. The HUD has also been restructured for improved comprehension. Furthermore, hit reactions have been integrated to enhance clarity, and Archery has allegedly been updated for both first-person and third-person viewpoints.

2023 saw whispers about a remastered version of Oblivion when papers disclosed during the FTC’s trial with Microsoft over their acquisition of Activision Blizzard hinted at unannounced Bethesda games scheduled for release in the upcoming years. Compiled in July 2020 before Microsoft finalized its purchase of ZeniMax Media, the list mentioned several titles, including Oblivion.

Financial year 2022:

  • Oblivion Remaster
  • Indiana Jones game

Financial year 2023

  • Doom Year Zero and DLC
  • Project Kestrel
  • Project Platinum

Financial year 2024

  • The Elder Scrolls 6
  • Project Kestrel: Expansion
  • Licensed IP Game
  • Fallout 3 Remaster
  • Ghostwire: Tokyo Sequel
  • Dishonored 3
  • DOOM Year Zero DLC

As a dedicated gamer, it’s been quite a rollercoaster ride. Some games I was eagerly anticipating have either had their release dates pushed back or sadly been shelved altogether. For instance, Doom Year Zero has now transformed into Doom: The Dark Ages and is slated for launch in May. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, on the other hand, won’t be hitting the shelves until December 2024. And unfortunately, The Elder Scrolls 6 seems to have missed the financial year 2024 mark.

Our primary focus at the moment is the upgraded version of Oblivion, as it’s been referred to in the Microsoft document as a “remaster.” However, considering the possible expansion of the project, it might have transformed into a full remake. The extent of the transformation will be revealed once Bethesda officially unveils what has turned into one of the most anticipated secrets in video gaming.

What platforms will the remake of Oblivion be available on? Given that Microsoft is focusing on multi-platform releases, it’s possible that Oblivion could welcome players from beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, especially if the rumored Nintendo Switch 2 arrives as early as June. In that case, Oblivion might debut alongside the Switch 2.
