The Day the Earth Blew Up Looney Tunes Movie Gets Promising Theatrical Release Update

As a longtime enthusiast and connoisseur of Looney Tunes, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming release of “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.” Having grown up with these timeless characters, I’ve witnessed their evolution through various eras and adaptations, but this latest installment promises to be a monumental return to form for the franchise.

Following a period of uncertainty, the animated movie “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Adventure” has secured a new distributor and shifted course. Two years after being let go, Ketchup Entertainment has taken over the North American distribution rights from Warner Bros. Discovery.

Announcing that Ketchup Entertainment has joined forces revitalizes an upcoming animated feature originally produced by Warner Bros. Animation, titled “The Day the Earth Blew Up.” Slated for nationwide release (date not specified), this cinematic event is significant as it belongs to one of the most esteemed series ever conceived: Looney Tunes. Gareth West, CEO of Ketchup Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “Today marks a milestone in the Looney Tunes franchise, and we are thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to bring this film to theater-goers.” The movie promises to captivate audiences of all ages with an imaginative animated tale that has left many thinking deeply in recent years.

In this new tale, titled “The Day Earth Exploded”, beloved characters Porky Pig and Daffy Duck assume leadership roles, as stated in the synopsis. With Earth under attack by extraterrestrials, these endearing figures find themselves thrust into extraordinary heroic situations. This fresh narrative continues the Looney Tunes tradition of vibrant visuals and side-splitting humor that has captivated audiences for decades. Classified as an “epic buddy-comedy”, the film delivers on its promise: action-packed hilarity, but in a way that could shake the foundations of the franchise itself.

“The movie titled ‘The Day the Earth Blew Up’ is a spin-off from the popular TV show ‘Looney Tunes Cartoons’. Directed by Pete Browngardt, who also worked on the original series, this film is scripted by Kevin Costello. Notable voice actors like Eric Bauza (returning as Daffy Duck and Porky Pig) and Candi Milo (as Petunia Pig) are part of the cast. Supporting roles are filled by Peter MacNicol (The Invader), Fred Tatasciore (Farmer Jim and Scientist), Laraine Newman (The Landlady), and Wayne Knight (Homeless Man). Similar to Knight, who was in the 1996 film ‘Space Jam’ combining live-action and animation, he once more contributes his skills to the Looney Tunes universe.”

Initially given the go-ahead by HBO Max in 2021, the destiny of The Day the Earth Blew Up was left uncertain following its suspension by Warner Bros. Discovery this August, as part of their strategy to eliminate content. Despite ongoing production, Warner Bros. Animation has been actively seeking a new distributor. However, luck turned around for the film when it enjoyed a highly successful debut at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, leading eventually to Ketchup Entertainment acquiring the distribution rights.

Anticipation is already mounting, as fans of Looney Tunes prepare for a grand cinema debut. This upcoming release promises to bring back the timeless wit and amusing plots that have endeared these characters to numerous generations.
