‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ Is Shaping up To Be The Final Film in The Main Franchise

Last Rites” is an upcoming supernatural horror flick coming our way. The director of this spine-chilling movie is Michael Chaves, while Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga take on the roles of Ed and Lorraine Warren – these characters were actual paranormal investigators in real life. This new film serves as a follow-up to “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” (2021) and is the ninth movie within the “Conjuring Universe.” James Wan and Peter Safran, who have been involved in previous films of this series, are back once more at the production helm.

At this year’s CinemaCon event by Warner Bros., fresh information about an upcoming film was disclosed. The last case of the Warrens is set to be portrayed in Last Rites, marking it as the concluding chapter in the primary saga of the franchise.

Prior to the release of “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” in June 2021, its director, Michael Chaves, hinted at potential continuations within the series. In a discussion, he pointed out that the final scene of the previous film left openings for fresh narratives to unfold.

In simple terms, both Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga expressed a desire to carry on with their characters. Farmiga, in particular, was thrilled about it, noting that every subsequent film needed to be more terrifying as the subject matter of demonology is inherently intense.

It was made official in October 2022 that work on a fourth installment of the “Conjuring” series was underway. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick penned the script, with James Wan and Peter Safran serving as producers. Before the release of “The Nun II” in September 2023, Chaves suggested that the script for this new “Conjuring” film was still a work in progress. He further disclosed that the movie was intended to serve as a grand finale for the series’ previous installments.

The movie is set to be released in the United States on September 5, 2025.
