Disney’s *Predator: Badlands* is set in the future on another planet. The story centers around Dek, a young Predator who has been exiled from his group because he’s smaller than the others.
Everything shifts for him when he encounters Thia, a synthetic being created by Weyland-Yutani who has no legs. Together, they embark on a perilous quest to locate their greatest foe.
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi stars as Dek. Elle Fanning plays a complex dual role as both Thia, a broken synth who teams up with Dek, and Tessa, a flawless Wey-Yu model who opposes them. Fanning also portrays various other synthetic characters created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation.
Dan Trachtenberg, the director behind films like *Prey* (2022) and the upcoming *Predator: Killer of Killers* (2025), has shared that his new movie, *Badlands*, will tell a unique story focusing on the Predators’ planet and way of life.
I’m really excited about this movie because the director has talked about all the amazing things that inspired it. He said they looked to the incredible artwork of Frank Frazetta, and films like *Mad Max 2*, *The Book of Eli*, and those classic Clint Eastwood westerns for ideas. Even the video game *Shadow of the Colossus* played a part in shaping the movie’s overall feel and how it looks – which I think is fantastic!
According to Trachtenberg, the new movie includes a fully realized Predator language, complete with both spoken words and a written form. This language was created by the same linguist who developed the Na’vi language for Avatar. He also revealed that, unlike previous films, the Predator isn’t the antagonist this time – the character Dek is the hero of the story.
Marvel Comics is releasing a special one-shot comic book that tells a story leading up to the new movie. It’s written by Ethan Sacks, illustrated by Elvin Ching, and features cover art by Juan Ferreyra. Fans can expect it to hit shelves on November 12th, shortly after the movie premieres.
Shane Black has indicated he’s open to making more *Predator* movies after *Badlands*, but it depends on how well the new film is received. For now, the action starts again, and the setting of *Badlands* awaits.
