The Cast and Creators of Stranger Things 5 Tease Their Characters’ Fates

The first trailer for Stranger Things 5 is here, and it looks intense! To help fans prepare for the final season, the cast and creators have shared some hints about what’s in store for their characters. Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Noah Schnapp (Will), Sadie Sink (Max), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), the Duffer Brothers, and Sean Levy all offered insights into their characters’ journeys. Here’s what Netflix revealed on its Tudum site.

Millie Bobby Brown on Eleven Character Journey in Stranger Things 5

Millie Bobby Brown described Eleven’s state of mind heading into the fifth season of Stranger Things. She’s been training and is fully focused on being a warrior – something we’ll see right from the start of the season. Eleven’s only concern is protecting her friends, who she considers her family, and she’ll do anything necessary to keep them safe.

Gaten Matarazzo on Dustin’s State of Mind in Stranger Things 5

Dustin is really struggling after the loss of his friend, Eddie Munson. Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin in Stranger Things, says his character is feeling down as they prepare for season 5. Everyone in the group is having a tough time dealing with the ongoing danger in Hawkins and trying to stay united. They’re focused on both protecting each other and figuring out how to stop Vecna, all while still processing the traumatic events of the past.

Caleb McLaughlin on Lucas’s Character Story in Stranger Things 5

Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas in Stranger Things, explained that this season feels different. Unlike previous seasons where things started relatively calm, this season immediately picks up with the same high stakes and unresolved conflict from the previous finale. Vecna hasn’t been defeated, and the characters are still struggling to find a solution, creating a constant sense of pressure and worry for Lucas and the rest of the group. Everyone is trying to stay hopeful despite the difficult situation.

Noah Schnapp on Will’s Return to Hawkins in Stranger Things 5

Noah Schnapp explained that his character, Will, is back in Hawkins for the fifth season of Stranger Things. After being away last season, the show explores how being back home is affecting him. Schnapp also said this season starts quickly, with everyone together and focused on the same goal – a departure from how previous seasons began.

Sadie Sink on Max on the Small Glimmer of Hope for Her Character in Stranger Things 5

Sadie Sink shared some information about what’s next for her character, Max, in the fifth season of Stranger Things. After the dramatic events of Season 4, Max is in a critical condition – she ended the season in a hospital bed. Eleven tried to find her consciousness, but couldn’t, meaning Max has been fundamentally changed. However, there’s still a small chance for her recovery, and her friends haven’t given up hope.

Finn Wolfhard on Mike Wheeler in Stranger Things 5

Finn Wolfhard shared that Mike Wheeler is stepping up as a leader again, taking charge in planning how to defeat Vecna. He and the rest of the group are fully committed to finding Vecna and finally stopping him.

Creators Ross and Matt Duffer on Stranger Things 5

Ross Duffer explained that the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things will be different from previous seasons. Usually, the show begins by showing the characters’ normal lives before introducing the supernatural events. However, this season will immediately jump into action and chaos, as the heroes didn’t succeed in Season 4 and are starting from a point of loss.

You know, talking to Matt Duffer really hit home for me. He explained how these kids in Hawkins aren’t living anything close to a normal life anymore. Everything’s been flipped upside down, and it’s not just the monsters—it’s the constant surveillance and restrictions on their freedom. It’s like they’re living in a real-life ‘Big Brother’ scenario where even the simplest things aren’t simple anymore. It’s not just that bad stuff happens to them, but that their whole world is just…off.

Director and Executive Producer Shawn Levy on Stranger Things 5

In closing, Shawn Levy stated that while the action and visual effects have reached a new high, the show’s heart and emotional core remain strong. He believes the show’s enduring appeal comes from staying connected to the beloved characters, even as the story expands and becomes more ambitious.

More About Stranger Things 5

In the fall of 1987, Hawkins is still reeling from the events that opened Rifts to another dimension. The heroes are determined to find and destroy Vecna, but he’s disappeared, and no one knows where he is or what he’s planning. Making things even harder, the government has put Hawkins under military lockdown and is aggressively searching for Eleven, forcing her to go into hiding again. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance nears, a sense of dread returns. The final showdown is coming, and it promises to be more dangerous than anything they’ve encountered before. To finally defeat this threat, everyone – the whole group – will need to stand together for one last time.

The series will release in three volumes on the following dates:

  • Stranger Things 5, Volume 1 releases on November 26
    • This includes episodes one through four.
  • Stranger Things 5, Volume 2 releases on Christmas (December 25)
    • This includes episodes five through seven.
  • Stranger Things 5, Volume 3 releases on New Year’s Eve (December 31)
    • This is the finale episode, or episode eight.

I’m really excited for Stranger Things 5 and seeing what happens with all my favorite characters! While we wait, it’s the perfect time to revisit the first four seasons – they’re all available on Netflix if you need a refresher (or just want to experience the magic again!).
