The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Has Found Its New Chosen One

The upcoming revival or continuation of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” has selected its main character. As reported by Variety, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who previously starred in the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “Skeleton Crew” and played the lead in the remake of “Firestarter”, will headline the new series. Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her role as Buffy Summers, offering guidance to Armstrong’s character, the new teen Slayer. In a touching moment, Gellar was the one to inform Armstrong about landing the part, which she shared on Instagram in a video.

As a film enthusiast, I couldn’t help but be captivated from the moment I laid eyes on Ryan’s audition tape. From that instant, I knew without a doubt that there was just one girl who I wanted by my side throughout this journey. Her ability to convey such deep emotions at such a tender age is a rare gift indeed. To top it off, her smile has an uncanny knack for illuminating even the dimmest of spaces.

In the heartfelt video she addressed to her latest acting partner, Gellar uttered “Welcome to New Sunnydale,” which hints at a significant plot twist for the upcoming series. As you may recall, the original “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” series concluded with the destruction of Sunnydale, a town that sat above the Hellmouth and served as Buffy and her companions’ headquarters. However, it seems that in the 25 years since then, a fresh settlement has arisen on this prime Californian land.

The question that lingers is whether the title Buffy the Vampire Slayer will stay the same if Ryan Kiera Armstrong takes the lead role. Since she could be a slayer named after Buffy, it might lead to “Buffy #1” and “Buffy #2,” which could become repetitive. There are whispers that Buffy has taken on a new name in this reboot – Anne – which she also assumed when running away from home in the original series. This could simplify matters. The upcoming Buffy revival is being overseen by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman, who are showrunners and executive producers. Chloé Zhao has been tapped to direct the pilot for Hulu, but a release date hasn’t been announced yet. If production begins this year, we might expect the series in 2026, or possibly 2027, marking the original show’s 30th anniversary.
