‘The Boys’ Star, Jack Quaid Reflects on His Unsuccessful ‘Superman’ Audition: “it went nowhere”

As a huge fan of Jack Quaid‘s acting abilities, it’s both fascinating and unfortunate to delve into his experiences with auditioning for the role of Superman in live-action. It’s no secret that Quaid has made a significant impact on audiences through his portrayal of Hughie Campbell in “The Boys,” and his work in animation as the voice of Superman.

I’m a huge fan of Jack Quaid, and you probably recognize him best from his starring role in “The Boys,” the hit TV show that’s taken the world by storm. It was his first big break into the superhero genre, and he’s killed it with every episode!

I’ve always dreamed of bringing Superman to life on the big screen, just like Quaid. He’s impressed us with his voices in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and “My Adventures with Superman.” But for me personally, I longed to embody the Man of Steel in a live-action production. Sadly, I put together an audition tape and gave it my all, but unfortunately, it didn’t make the cut.

Quaid shared that just like everyone else, he tried out for James Gunn’s initial live-action DCU project, but unfortunately, his audition didn’t make it very far in the selection process.

Based on my personal experience, I gave it a shot and managed to complete the task, yes, I did. Looking back, I believe many others followed suit if they met the requirements. However, my progress didn’t go beyond that initial step. I recorded myself for an application, but unfortunately, it didn’t lead me anywhere. And you know what? It’s all good, just part of life’s journey.

Quaid doesn’t match the typical, well-known representation of Superman, which might have affected his audition results. Yet, he has impressively portrayed an animated version of the character with great accuracy. Quaid also assured that he is content with Gunn’s selection for the Superman role.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing David Corenswet to some extent. We worked on an unsuccessful pilot together long ago. But there are certain individuals you come across who seem destined for success. David is one such person. He might not have been my first pick for the role of Superman, but he’s undeniably got that special something. I may not have physically resembled the Man of Steel during that audition, and that was okay with me.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed a lot of buzz lately about Quaid. He’s been upfront about being labeled a “nepo baby” – something I didn’t fully understand until I looked it up. Turns out, he’s the one and only kid of acting greats Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid.

In simpler terms, despite my efforts, some people will always point out my privileged background. They’ve labeled me a “nepo baby,” and while I acknowledge this truth, I have worked tirelessly to prove myself worthy of the opportunities I’ve received. The entertainment industry was more accessible to me than it is for many actors. Consequently, I’ve had to put in extra effort to excel in my chosen field, such as the romantic comedy genre, where I must create unique and distinctive work.
