As a long-time fan of both Eric Kripke‘s work and The Boys, I must admit that his latest antics have left me somewhat divided. On one hand, he has consistently delivered thought-provoking and engaging content that has kept us hooked for seasons. On the other, his recent political posts, while undeniably entertaining, seem to be pushing the boundaries of good taste a tad too far.
Just finished watching ‘The Boys’ fourth season, and it certainly took everyone by surprise! Even with its massive fanbase, the series has been under fire recently due to allegations of poor writing quality and review-bombing from some supporters.
Although the series hasn’t been shy about expressing its progressive ideas in the past, the current season appears to have discarded all attempts at tact or complexity. Instead, it has relied excessively on crass humor, distasteful jests, jokes involving sexual assault, and an abundance of graphic violence to convey its messages.
Eric Kripke, known for his open political stance, has historically leaned more towards implicit expression rather than overt content like political themes, sexual assault references, unusual fetishes, or bizarre concepts. He frequently uses social media to engage with displeased “fans” or to express appreciation for his team. However, a recent tweet of his veered into politics: the screenwriter and producer shared an altered image that placed key members of Trump’s administration, right-wing media personalities, and business moguls onto Zack Snyder’s famous ‘Justice League’ poster.
It’s challenging to find a suitable beginning for this discussion. The idea of Elon Musk becoming a cyborg, Robert F. Kennedy portrayed as a fisherman, Donald Trump in a Superman suit, and a film considered a flop… It seems difficult to present the Seven as heroes, but we’re attempting it. #TheBoys #SPNFamily

In the image, Elon Musk appears as Cyborg, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Aquaman, JD Vance as Batman, Vivek Ramaswamy as Flash, Tulsi Gabbard as Wonder Woman, and, unsurprisingly, Trump takes on the role of Superman.
Kripke titled his post by pointing out a similarity between “The Injustice League” and The Seven, stating, “Making The Seven appear heroic is challenging, yet here it is.”
Just as anticipated, quite a few admirers of Kripke found amusement in the picture and contributed their personal thoughts and interpretations.
The show is just writing itself at this point

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel that this situation is a desperate call for assistance. Just like how I know when my game is in shambles, it seems Trump’s campaign might be as chaotic as the Snyderverse in one of its darkest timelines.

Really, Vance should have been the fish fucker. Would anyone actually blink at this point if that news came out?
— Gilded Lady (@gilded_lady) August 30, 2024
J.D. Vance is basically Deep as an actual guy, he even has a history of searching for “dolphin sex”.

And, unsurprisingly, many people criticized Kripke for sharing the image.
Oh dear me! The Unfair Alliance!!

I have everything about the right wing justice league boomer memes but you’re still objectively worse in every way. Jewish. Leftist. Everything you create is nihilistic anti Christian anti American anti human trash.

Fuck off, commie!

Eric, you’re posting Trump edits. Are you OK?

Although you may have good intentions, you unknowingly play into the hands of corporations when you engage in divisive discussions like this one. Such division weakens our collective power, making it easier for them to control the narrative. It’s not wrong to support Trump, but let’s be aware that such debates can create divisions among us.
